I've never listened to a Nirvana album other than Nevermind.

I don't know where this fits in my favourite Nirvana releases. When I think about it, there isn't a Nirvana release I dislike (well, I was indifferent to that boxset from a few years back, but I really like everything released in their lifetime). This is just great, and you know it's going to be from the first track. That version of 'About A Girl', whether or not it's superior to the fantastic original, is just so great. They pulled this off with so much more subtlety and aplomb than I imagine many people thought they were capable of, and it remains the benchmark against which all other 'unplugged' albums are measured. If I had to choose, I probably enjoy this about the same as Nevermind, that is to say slightly more than In Utero and slightly less than Bleach and Incesticide. But they're all pretty much essential listening. I always feel there should be a Nirvana album on my chart (and occasionally there is), but they were so consistent that I have so much trouble picking which. Ah well. Anybody that hasn't heard this should probably listen pretty soon.

Second best MTV Unplugged album, only behind Alice in Chains.

Also, a major source of David Bowie's frustration as well, which is always funny. Surprised

I think it's Nirvana's best release too. I got tired of Nevermind, especially the songs that were/are on the radio 24/7.

Phenomenal. Many of the tracks ("About a Girl", "Dumb", "Polly", "Something in the Way") far surpass their studio versions, and this album's versions of "Man Who Sold the World" and the Meat Puppets tunes are far better than the originals, in my opinion. It was an album that nobody expected Nirvana to make, yet they pulled it off perfectly, and it's just that much more powerful in light of Kurt's suicide. It's not quite at the same level as Nevermind, but I personally prefer it to In Utero. Excellent, excellent album.
