I'm a tad confused, how would this comment thread work?

The ability to reply to specific comments rather than everything be in a straight line. Ever used a site like Reddit? Imgur?

A single comment can branch into a full discussion, and sometimes it doesn't lead to something that directly relates to the album or chart but it can still be interesting. If implemented right it can make discussions easier and neater, rather than having said discussion take place on top of other comments unrelated to it and such.

Either have comment threads be in a diagonal path like in Reddit, or have the ability to "show reply" like Imgur. I think Reddit is easier but Imgur looks neater.

Kind of like this quote thread but the other way around.

Also, I agree that Imgur looks neater. I like that style better than Reddit. It gives you the option of reading replies to comments if you want, or ignoring them if you want to. Imgur only implemented comment threads not too long ago (maybe 6 to 9 months ago?), and they basically took Reddit's version and tried to improve on it.

I loathe that style because of how messy it looks (One of the reasons I don't use Reddit since I find it to be an eyesore) but I also understand how it helps keep the main gist of threads on topic whilst allowing side conversations to flourish without other users getting annoyed...definitely an interesting prospect.

For fun I made an example in a text file and uploaded it as an image:

Personally, I don't like it. Too messy.

reddit is messy, though there are sites where it works rather well. I think if we were to do something like that, the default option needs to be to only show "regular" comments, and then for every comment you would have option of showing replies (similar to imgur style)
