First Chrome, now Half Japanese are against Talk Talk.

Damn it why does BEA like Talk Talk's pre-SOE stuff so much?

I think it's unfair to dismiss their later material just because Talk Talk progressed and developed into what is now known as post rock. When they released Spirit of Eden, had anyone even used the term post-rock to describe a band? When did that term even come to existence.

Plus Colour of Spring is genius.

If TalkTalk doesn't count due to a sub-genre term coined after their existence, then couldn't we dismiss Half Japanese as lo-fi

I cannot in good conscience vote for a band that knocked Devo out of this tourney.

Talk Talk wins it for me, in that case.

Devo definitely deserved more love than they got.

Have you heard their early recordings: Hardcore Volumes 1 & 2?

It is fair to dismiss the last two albums as they aren't even close to being New Wave or Post Punk. It's unfortunate because just one of those albums is better than many New Wave or Post Punk discographies.

I totally disagree. The original definitions of Post-Punk and New Wave are far more ambiguous than we like to see them as today. If anything, I see post-rock as a sub-genre of these 2 sub-genres. And here begins the argument that genres are meaningless. I personally believe Talk Talk began as a New Wave band and just continued to expand its limitations/possibilities.

If we're gonna argue about band discographies fitting within the context of the tournament, then where does Pink Flag fit? That album came out in 1977. Do we really wanna believe Post-Punk started the same year that The Sex Pistols and Clash released their debut records. Same thing with Marquee Moon.

Congratulations. Now if you remember at the start of the tournament Harkan decided we would follow the definitions of RYM and Wiki if I recall correctly, look up Laughing Stock and Spirit, what genre are they classed as?

Also Hairymarx would have you believe Post Punk started in 69. I don't see why it couldn't be before Punk. It's just a name.
