The sampling is fantastic, but for some reason this album disappoints me. I think my hopes might have been too high the first time I listened to this. It's still a great album, and I do like it, but I feel like it could've been better. _________________ 51 Washington, D.C. albums!
this album is connected to my adolescents. i remember doing a paper route listening to this cd non stop. Songs like 'Shake Your Rump', 'Eggman', and 'Sound of Science' really spoke to my newly hormone injected brain. Nowadays I can still enjoy the album but I tend to stick to 'High Plains Drifter', '3 Minute Rule', 'Looking Down the Barrel of Gun', and 'Car Thief'. These all have a similar feel to me for some reason. Got to love the 'Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun' music video.
The masterpiece of one of the greatest bands/rap groups/whatevers of all time. I highly recommend reading the 33 1/3 for the book. Gives really interesting insight into the story of the album, especially into where the Beasties were at that point of their career. RIP MCA
Always a great and refreshing listen. The kings of party before party music became house. It's also the sister album to 3 feet high and rising, both of which marked the height of sampledelica, and laid the paths for everything from Since I Left You to Person Pitch to literally any sample-based music around after then. My personal favorite track is "Egg Man".
Miles ahead of Licensed to Ill, despite that album having my favorite BB song: "Rhymin' and Stealin'." PB is a little more versatile and has more fun songs that Licensed. This album was in my top 100 for a little while, and it may still be. It's been a while since I've checked my charts. This album has one of my favorite BB quotes: "Rapunzel Rapunzel let down your hair so I can climb up and get into your underwear." "Shake Your Rump" is great.
