Songs that totally sound like another song and are clearly rip-offs are placed here in this thread. Avoiding Led Zeppelin, I'm going to choose Bad Case of Loving You that has an opening riff very similar to the riff of Born to be Wild. It always bugs mer when I hear that riff and think "Oh cool! Born to be Wild!" and then I hear that annoying "Ooh-whoa!"

R.E.M. ripped off the Manic Street Preachers badly this one time.

Also I heard Andrew Lloyd Webber has ripped off quite a few acts. Think

Tears Dry on Their Own is the exact same song as Ain't No Mountain High Enough.

You'll find that more songs in rock are "ripped off" than are original. And you'll be able to find hundreds of examples that illustrate this better than Born To Be Wild/Bad Case Of Loving You.

And no...you can't ignore Led Zeppelin.

I think Chicago have possibly ripped off more than Green Day and Oasis combined. That's pretty fucking terrible.

"Nothing is original. Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination. Devour old films, new films, music, books, paintings, photographs, poems, dreams, random conversations, architecture, bridges, street signs, trees, clouds, bodies of water, light and shadows. Select only things to steal from that speak directly to your soul. If you do this, your work (and theft) will be authentic. Authenticity is invaluable; originality is nonexistent. And don’t bother concealing your thievery—celebrate it if you feel like it. In any case, always remember what Jean-Luc Godard said: 'It’s not where you take things from—it’s where you take them to.'" - Jim Jarmusch

Also I Don't Love You by MCR has always sounded to me like if you melded Coldplay's The Scientist and Coldplay's Yellow.
