You have got to be kidding me! That has to be the most infamous (What happened?) sophomore slump albums in history. I wouldn't even call it a slump, more like a career ending album.
Quote: |
I think the whole idea is absolute horseradish. Check it out:
A Quick One-The Who
White Light/White Heat-The Velvet Underground |
I disagree with you on both of those, especially A Quick One. Aside from the mini rock opera, Disguises, and So Sad About Us, that's one of their weaker albums, certainly inferior to their debut. White Light, White Heat has its moments as chaotic and weird as it is, but it is inferior to & Nico.

How in the world... GNR Lies I would of overlooked (even though it's not that bad) But when you have November Rain, Yesterdays, Live And Let Die, Get In The Ring, Don't Cry, CIVIL WAR, 14 years, Shot Gun Blues, Knockin' On Heavens Door, Perfect Crime, The Garden and You Could Be Mine on a double album... well there is not much more I would ask for

Maybe if they took the best of Use Your Illusion I & II they could have had a better and shorter collection on one CD. II was better than I but neither the equal of Appetite For Destruction. _________________ Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by RFNAPLES

I have to make another correction. Zen Arcade was Husker Du's third album after Everything Falls Apart, which I think was out of print for a while. Space Oddity was David Bowie's third album after my favorite, Hunky Dory, and also I argue against your perceived greatness of Space Oddity as an album. Lust for Life is actually Iggy's debut as a solo artist. His second album is The Idiot.
If you're going to make an argument, get the facts right, people! You can always check allmusic.com for a factcheck.

Oh yeah, I forgot that Kill City was "Iggy Pop and James Williamson." Such a disappointment after their work on Raw Power; New Values kind of made up for it, a little

if you count EPs, then yes Zen Arcade was the Husker's third, but i was thinking only LPs. Space Oddity (1969) was, infact Bowie's second, after David Bowie (1967). Hunky Dory (1971) was actually his 4th, after The Man Who Sold The World (1970). Iggy Pop's The Idiot came out on March 18th 1977, 6 months before Lust for Life, which came out on September 9th of that same year.
I think the sophomore slump is more of a modern post-MTV idea...in the "here-today-gone-tomorrow" band saturated wasteland we live in. Its usually the album right after a band's first commercial or breakthrough success, where they fail to prolong the general spirit fans and critics originally praised. I think it definitely exists...
