- Post subject: Most Disappointing 2015 Release thus far
|
What's your biggest disappointment album-wise thus far in 2015? Which album has failed you despite multiple spins & high hopes?
For me, this is the easy winner...

No Cities To Love by Sleater-Kinney
Which is kind of surprising since it got almost universal critical praise, S-K is one of my favourite bands, and most of all, Mecca & Gowi really seem to dig it.

Wave Runner by Capsule
The first one was recommended by Nech, and it's his AOTY; however all of it seems disinteresting and inconsistent as well as not executed well at all.
The second one was Capsule (produced by the King of Jpop right now: Yasutaka Nakata) and instead of being interesting it sounds like Japanese Avicii in all of the worst ways possible. Definitely a fall from grace since both Caps Lock and More! More! More! were pretty enjoyable.

This is tough so for now I have 2
I didn't have very high hopes for this...

Strangers To Ourselves by Modest Mouse
but I still ended up feeling let down. Definitely the weakest Modest Mouse album yet.

Kintsugi by Death Cab For Cutie
and was similarly dissapointed by again, the weakest album from this band to date.

I'd say it's on the level of Code & Keys, if not a little better. But yeah, first half was pretty cool but the second half of the record was a bore that frustrated me as a fan too.

The new Toro Y Moi or Mount Eerie. Didn't enjoy either.

Usually when an artist's previous two albums were sub-par/disappointing then I won't have any expectations for their subsequent one(Modest Mouse,Death Cab,Belle & Sebastian).

It seems that critics are so easily pleased.Makes me wonder whether they had even listened to their back-catalog before they review the new album.

Oh, sure. I've listened to it bunch. Just don't see myself playing it that much more going forward. I love their other stuff so much more. When I get home & I'm not typing on a blasted iPad, I'll try to explain just why it fails me.

Dream A Garden by Jam City
I enjoyed that previous Jam City album, but this one with all the vocals and stuff, that just really did not work for me at all. Cool that he went in a whole other direction so I can't hate on it or anything, just wasn't my sorta thing.

I'm one of those few DCFC fans who openly admits to loving Codes & Keys. I like it better than Something About Airplanes, Plans, and now Kintsugi
