You could skip those if you wanted.... 50/100 & 60/100 in my books. |
I'm going to give Achtung Baby a try eventually... I'm on the fence with Arctic Monkeys.
I do know that I absolutely hate Queen and Muse though, from the singles that I've heard |
even though i hate to say it, but Achtung Baby is worth a listen as (as much as i dislike U2) it is their best album and a landmark album as it marked a transition from their sound of Joshua Tree's blues to dancer stuff.
Even though i didn't bother with it when it first came out, i really like Arctic Monkey's first album and IMO their carefree best. Even though the 2nd album is really good, it doesn't seem to have the same unexpected excitement as their first....
as for Muse, give the first 2 albums a go as they are actually good (they got kinda overblown on following releases).....and yeah, i totally agree with you on Queen...my most hated band/group alongside ABBA... _________________ "Bunch of opinionated, hipster twats!"

I actually have heard Nevermind, in a way, since I've been listening to the radio since I was 7 I've heard enough of that album to know that it's not really a priority listen for me. Same with Thriller. I just flat-out don't like Arcade Fire but I suppose I should get around to sitting through one of their albums some day or another. _________________ I love all music. But Mellon Collie, I'm sure that's up there in priority, right? ;) _________________ A dick that's bigger than the sun.

But on a more serious note... albums like Nevermind and The Joshua Tree...
I feel this needs to be seriously discussed. These sorts of albums are NOT good albums. At least, they aren't PUT TOGETHER like good albums, and they keep me from enjoying them as ALBUMS.
I feel that track listing is VERY important. It is imperative that the artist crafting the album places the songs so that the album together becomes an experience in its own right, that it becomes an actual ALBUM and not just an unorganized collection of songs. But albums like Nevermind or Joshua Tree (or every other U2 album since then) are put together in an incredibly lazy fashion. All the singles have been placed RIGHT AT THE BEGINNING, as if the rest of the album was a mere afterthought. You know what I feel that says to me, the listener? It's like the artist is telling me: "alright, here are all the singles, right at the beginning for your convenience. The rest of the album just isn't worth listening to, ignore it." _________________ A dick that's bigger than the sun.

Once Upon a Time... the only way to really listen to music was to purchase a heavy black disc, called a vinyl album. That album had two sides and could only be listened to on a record player. This meant that you had to physical turn the album over to listen to the other half of the album. If you wanted to listen to a particular track on a vinyl album you had to hang onto the stylus (the arm like thing on record player) with a very steady hand and sort of drop it where you thought the song started...
Record companies liked it when all the 'best' tracks were on one side of the album as this boosted album sales as people didn't have to fanny around with turning the albums over. The added bonus was that you didn't run the risk of scratching your precious vinyl by jerking the stylus around.
Not saying that is the reason you don't like Nevermind or Joshua Tree or that is why all their singles are at the beginning. But it is one of the reasons that bands were often gently forced to put the singles close together in the track listing...
And (probably because I don't know this) why concept albums rarely released singles..
