Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a mean average rating of 63.0/100. The trimmed mean (excluding outliers) is 63.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 18.9.

I can actually tolerate this better than the black album. I give everything tolerable 5 stars because I read the manual and the rating is not factored just charts. I only have 50 albums on my charts at this point. I don't expect this to be added anytime soon

Apparently, Metallica was disappointed that they hadn't driven off all their fans with the black album, so they put out this heap.

Yikes, Metallica really let the 90's bleed into this album (and reload as well) with some possible Alice in Chains influence, which really didn't go well. This was the first of three of Metallica's notoriously b a d albums, and I'm pretty sure it only gets worse from here.

After the great success of the Black Album, fans were expecting a return to Thrash Metal and Metallica did precisely the opposite, they created their album more commercial and near the Hard Rock of the 90s, the result was criticism by the fans.
This part I realize, but it's been more than 20 years and realizing that people still can not understand the excellent songs that are here, it puts me in confusion!
It's not the best Metallica album, it's not a Metal album, but it has great songs and I think that should be the most important.

Oh dear what went wrong here ! A poor album I can't say anything positive about this except the last track is the best.

Once you get over the fact that this is not a thrash metal album (and, really, why expect that after the Black album?), you should be able to see this is a really solid hard rock album. No, it's not as good as old Metallica, but what is?

Little bit better than Ride the Lightning and Kill 'Em All... I grew up with this Metallica + St. Anger, so I consider this as a classic, but not better than Black album, Puppets and Justice... But way better than ReLoad and Death Magnetic IMO

Great album. Best 10 songs average is 94,3/100 and the album can get great 95/100. Yes, not as good as the black album, but great anyway. No lows. Best songs are "Until it sleeps" and "Mama said" both maximum rating. Followed by "Hero of the day" and "Thorn within" both 95/100 and next "Ain't my bitch" and "Wasting my hate" both 90/100. All (!!) other songs good 85/100. Clear favourite!!
Genre: Hard Rock, Heavy Metal

Not Metallica's strongest effort..which goes without saying. BUT, much of the hate which is directed toward this album mainly comes from the changes, both musically and appearance wise, that Metallica went through at that time, and a lot of people don't realize that this album has a number of quality tracks. Until It Sleeps, The House that Jack Built, and the Outlaw Torn show how good of a song the guys in Metallica can write. Decent album overall, but there are some songs that are just... really boring too.
