Dare (studio album) by The Human League

A classic 80's album in its style but the quality is scattered, and the music is inconsistent. There are one or two great songs on here but then there are also some poor ones that provide literally nothing to the album and should be removed such as I Am The Law. When its bad the music feels so slow and it drags so much that the whole record feels elongated. Also, it hasn't aged well and there are several moments which feel dated such as the synths which make me cringe in places. Overall, the only thing keeping this record high is the nostalgia for it and that last song which completely carries the whole record in my opinion.

Classic 80s synth-pop, one of the first in that kind, very enjoyable.

Decent album. Classic 80s music for that kind of vibe. Pretty consistently good music throughout. No surprises that jump out except the last song.

After much exposure on MTV, the single "Don't You Want Me" hit #1 in the U.S. for 3 weeks during the summer of 1982 and the '2nd British Invasion' (new wave rock, synth-pop) was on. While I had been exposed to O.M.D. on College Radio, this album was a game changer for my circle of friends. My favorite album of 1982 (at this site 1981.)
Favorite Tracks: #3,4,8,9,10.

I like the sound on this album, but I did not care for most of the songs. Highlights: Darkness, I Am the Law, Don't You Want Me.

Classic album. Wonderful mix of pop at its best with electronic brilliance. A brilliant trio to open, great tracks like I Am the Law in between, and the two classic singles to finish.

No 808 or 303 on this. Drums are LinnDrum. Sleeve notes list all the gear they used. Great production by Martin Rushent.

Proof that minimalism works! A Roland TB303, a TR808, a couple of lead synths and a suitcase full of creativity. Although the lead vocal is not on a par with similar bands of the era, coupled with two female backing singers it really worked. After the departure of Ian Craig Marsh and Martyn Ware for Heaven 17, many thought it was the end of The Human League. This album certainly proved this was not the case. Essential eighties synth pop!
