It's not pop, it's not art music, it's somewhere in between. Seriously, whatever happened to albums like this? A wonderful set of diverse songs. Some are cutting edge turning autotune into impassioned statements of purpose ("TOOTIME", "I Like America"), others carry as raw of human emotion as you can get ("Be My Mistake", "Mine"). Thematically it carries the sense that there is something wrong with the times, as I think literally all of us feel, but fuels that disappointment into hope, which is really all we can hope for music to do to us. I can't say how re-energized I feel from hearing this, from the opening driving festival punk of "Give Yourself A Try" to the orchestral grandeur of "I Always Want to Die, Sometimes". Easily my pick for AOTY.

Interesting stuff. There are some great songs here. It's Not Living (If It's Not With You) is a contender for song of the year in, to my ears. Other than the Fitter Happier remix that is "The Man That Fell In Love With A Robot", there are no obvious clunkers here. And there is even some interesting more experimental stuff, like How To Draw/Petrichor, which reminds me half of Bon Iver's "22, A Million" (a personal favorite) and half of some interesting 90's breakbeat, layered with their typical synth pop.

Started out kind of indifferent. Liked the first few songs but didn't understand what the hype was about. By the end though I was completely won over. I wouldn't compare it to OK Computer, I mean the track 'The Man Who Married A Robot / Love Theme' is similar to 'Fitter Happier' and I guess the concept of the album is too but the sound is completely different.

Stand out tracks for me are 'Always Want to Die (Sometimes)', 'Love it if We Made it', and 'Sincerity is Scary'.

This album has so many traits that I generally dislike in music including autotune, an acoustic guitar and vocals played by some teenage heartthrob, pop hooks at the expense of authenticity, and OK Computer comparisons. That being said, this is one of my favorite albums of the year. The songwriting, lyrics, and delivery is superb, even if certain tracks are overproduced. Love It If We Made It may be my favorite track of the year, gotta give credit where it's due

Their best work to day, as has been said. They've definitely been listening to OK Computer and James Blake. In fact, if you stopped this album at "It's Not Living (If It's Not with You)," this would be practically perfect. Instead, it goes on for too long and settles for very good.

Those lyrics, those instruments, those grooves, I was blown away from start to end, first album that's made me cry on my first listen, I'll never forget this one

I'm not behind the hype, but this is easily their best work.

How to Draw is fantastic, Love it if We Made It is brilliant.

But songs like TOOTIME make the OK Computer comparisons crazy at the very least

Easily their best work to date – a clever, genre-bending, and often beautiful pop record with much to say. This one is rare instance where the tracks progressively get better as it goes on, too.

9/10.

Highlights: Surrounded by Heads and Bodies, Love It If We Made It, I Always Wanna Die (Sometimes), It's Not Living (If It's Not With You)

Not remotely a fan of their prior work, but they've managed to maintain their sound whilst simultaneously expanding on it and honing it. A great, relatable, thematic record.
