i know it’s unhelpful, but people who struggle with the trumpet absolutely need not apply. felt like it was blowing my ears out, it’s the essence of every track. will not convert unbelievers.

This isn't my genre at all - but got it because it features highly in a number of charts. I like most music but struggle with Jazz as it often sounds to me like 6 guys playing a different song each. But I find this album relaxed and approachable with quite a nice lazy, easy swing to it. Its probably more Blues than Jazz which helps why I like it

So wonderfully engulfing of an album, the horns express a lot of emotion.

unfortunately I'm not very keen on jazz yet, but I can appreciate the work that is put in here.

Ok, so this is what I think:
I like Paul Chambers (bass) minimal approach but half of the time the lines are just boring.
Bill Evans (piano) is the best musician on this album.
Coltrane and Cannonball Adderly are clearly restrained (by themselves or Miles) and that makes them redundant (I'm a big Coltrane fan).
There are some good moments but the compositions are lazy or way too simplistic. Most of the time it feels like Evans' just dropping some chords and the rest are improvising on top of it (don't need to explain modality to me, I'm instructed).

I know that this is considered one of the best records ever recorded and was a game changer in its time, but it is not a great record if you have nowadays' knowledge.

How can this possibly be the best jazz album, when Miles himself blew this thing out of the water with his late 60s works? Srsly
