An enjoyable prog/metal album with every track fine apart from the terrible, at least lyrically anyway, Do you close your eyes. All in all, very similar to Richie Blackmore's previous band Deep Purple. Good, for people who (occasionly) like this kind of thing.

Number 23 on my all time chart. Stargazer is one of the few tracks I give 100 to, Tarot woman 95. If Gates of Babylon was here too, this album would be in my top 10.

Rainbow's best album without a doubt. There is great songwighting, especially on the B-side with "Stargazer" which is the strongest song and "A Light in the Black" which follows the same theme.

Can't disagree with other comments, I believe this to be the best Rainbow album. I have just listened to Deep Purple In Rock on purple vinyl, Dio, Holy Diver on Red vinyl, Black Sabbath, Heaven and Hell and This album on vinyl. What an evening of music, some of the best metal of that era, if not ever!

Such an amazing, brilliant record. No filler whatsoever. Blackmore at his best, Ronnie James Dio giving his best performances (and that says a lot).

This record swings as much as it rocks. The best Rainbow album in my opinion. Say what you will about some of the lyrics, but how Dio delivers them? Unmatched.

Stargazer is one of the best rock songs ever.

Maybe a slightly underrated album on this site.

This is just Ronnie James Dio and Ritchie Blackmore doing what they do best. Singing like an angel and playing guitar like a beast. Not a single bad track on this album. Catchy from start to finish
