Listening to this album, I used to assume Jimmy Castor was the bass player; the bass is so upfront in the mix. He's a horn player, also composer and arranger and all that. But that's just their sound, plenty of bottom end unk in the funk. Don't know what there is not to love about this album: the world can't have too much psychedelic funk, the cover art is perfection, the writing is great, it works as an album, and there are even hits...couple of club hits and a genuine AM radio Top-40 crossover. Bertha Butt and the band are getting down.
