Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some artists can have several thousand ratings)

This artist is rated in the top 1% of artists on BestEverAlbums.com. This artist has a mean average rating of 85.0/100. The trimmed mean (excluding outliers) is 86.8/100. The standard deviation for this artist is 17.2.

Some of the comments here..."Morrissey may be an awful person...", "Despite Morrisey's questionable remarks", "The Smiths succeed despite Morrissey's obnoxiousness".. etc...

Such comments come across as nothing more than insincere virtue signalling. The Guardian would be so proud of you... if they cared.

Morrissey may be an awful person, but damn if he isn't a fantastic poet. In conjunction with Johnny Marr, the Smiths were destined to make classics.

Simply put, the best band of the 80's, top 10 of all time. They are the most influential act since David Bowie and before Nirvana. All that has come after them owes a lot to their sound.

Despite Morrisey's questionable remarks, they are indie legends for a reason.

Not sure why, but it actually took me quite a few listens until I’ve realized that this band was absolutely amazing. It’s unbelievable how much these guys have accomplished in only 5 years. All of their albums are equally mind-blowing, including the compilations. They’ve also managed to end their career on a high note, something that few artists are capable of doing. These are the reasons why The Smiths became my personal favourite band of All Time. 80s night music at its finest!

One of many great Manchester bands. Very original and creative and in my top 3 favourites. The queen is dead is a flawless album and they have so many great songs. Favourites: There Is A Light, Heaven knows, Girlfriend in a coma, cemetry gates
