Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some artists can have several thousand ratings)

This artist is rated in the top 2% of artists on BestEverAlbums.com. This artist has a mean average rating of 82.0/100. The trimmed mean (excluding outliers) is 83.7/100. The standard deviation for this artist is 17.2.

The most overrated band of all time. They were a good band, had some good albums and they were pretty good live but their not the 9th all time greatest band and Kurt Cobain was not a musical genius. He is a overglorified simple guy that wrote some relatable songs for the time he was alive, that's it.

Grunge isn't my thing through and through, but their live performances are killer.

These guys made heavy music catchy. Kurt's voice and willingness to shift his sound to be commercial made this band the giant we all know and love.

I like Nirvana. Enjoy all their albums. But i have to be honest and say they are the most overrated band in history. They just don't compare to Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd or The Velvet Underground for overall output. Still a decent band though.

Amazing band, such a high density of great infectious yet equally emotional music. I love the aggression in a lot of In Utero and Bleach and the catchiness of Nevermind. By far the greatest grunge band ever. RIP Kurt

A group who possessed that rare talent to make loud music really, really mean something. I've never met any other fan of the band who didn't feel that they had some special connection with their music. I'd love to wax lyrical about all their live performances, the various covers they did, and how good Nevermind and In Utero are, but I think we'd be here all day.

It's not about 'comparing them to The Beatles' because they're 'one of the best bands ever' or talking about 'how influential they were' or whatever. What it's really about is how they manage to make a genre that should put so many off so damn appealing and listenable.

It's that appeal that makes me like them so much. I listen to them when I'm happy and when I'm sad, and they never ever let me down. And more than that, it makes Nirvana special.
