Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some artists can have several thousand ratings)
This artist is rated in the top 1% of artists on BestEverAlbums.com. This artist has a mean average rating of 88.0/100. The trimmed mean (excluding outliers) is 89.2/100. The standard deviation for this artist is 15.5.

I like to think of VU's discography as a weekend of debauchery...
- TVU & Nico is Friday night. You're done work for the week, and it's time for the party to begin.
- White Light/White Heat is Saturday night. The party is still going, but there are a lot more drugs being passed around, and things are really getting out of control.
- TVU is the Sunday morning hangover, and the time of reflection.
- Loaded is Monday morning. The weekend is over, you've sobered up, and it's time to get back to work.
Heard their debut and never wanted to listen to them again. Then one day, maybe a month ago, youtube recommended me ”After Hours”. I loved the track instantly and went back in their catalogue to check out their four amazing albums; (Didn’t hear Squeeze yet, hesitant if I should)... anyway this band is really good if you let it grow on you. I must say I don’t get the appeal of Sister Ray though. Great band; 90/100 is what I’m feeling right now, but it may increase.

Combo of Reed and Cale are such a beautiful thing.
Superb Band. As influential in their own way as The Beatles. Some of their music is harsh and abrasive. However, other tracks are truly beautiful. Not for everyone but interesting for those who like their lyrics a little on the dark side.
Very creative and influential band. One of my favourites. Their debut is basically flawless and their other albums are pretty great too.

I love how The Velvet Underground isn’t just dark disgusting music, as great as they make it. They also have composed some of the most beautiful, and joyous music ever created.
The '60s witnessed a tectonic shift in art with mostly American pop-art movement (led by Warhol), and I believe The Velvet Underground represents the music side of it, as an art historian and a fan of their music, I respect the woırk they have done (including the pioneering work they did in Exploding Plastic Inevitable)
All 4 of their albums are among the greatest of all time. Lou Reed is truly a mastermind.
