One of my favourite singers from an early age, and after hearing Bring It On Home to Me in the film Ali earlier today, I decided to put on his greatest hits. His voice still gives me chills and depending on the song, can bring me to tears. Obviously not an album artist, but based on individual tunes, he's absolutely phenomenal. Sad he left this earth so early. Who knows what he might have done if he'd hit the album era? He joins artists like Buddy Holly whose output was small but undeniably powerful, even if built on singles rather than albums.

Obviously doesn't stand on a best albums list but god DAMN is his music legendary!
One of the best performers and voices in music probably ever. Sad that he would go so early.

I get it, this is a "best albums" website, not a "best artists" one, but I simply can't trust a "top artists" list if Sam Cooke is not at least in the top 30.

It's a shame this is a 'best albums' website. It means that artists from the singles era (before the mid sixties) are often overlooked. Sam Cooke is a perfect example of this. Despite his early demise, he has a phenomenal library of music. Nobody could swing with soul like Sam Cooke.
