Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some artists can have several thousand ratings)
This artist is rated in the top 8% of all artists on BestEverAlbums.com. This artist has a Bayesian average rating of 77.7/100, a mean average of 76.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 79.1/100. The standard deviation for this artist is 12.0.

Very people would claim to have lived a life as dramatic as David Crosby and the few lines here cannot possibly do the man justice. Born into a ‘High Society’ family Crosby became a member of the Byrd’s after which he joined Crosby, Stills Nash and Young. Very few people are lucky enough to be part of one great band but the fact that Crosby contributed to two is no accident as he is a truly great songwriter and musician, and master of close harmony singing.
After CSN&Y disbanded Crosby fell into a drug laden downward spiral which would result in prison and almost cost Crosby his life. After eventually pulling himself back from the brink, assisted by his great friend Graham Nash, Crosby then suffered a severe illness and once again faced death only to be saved by a liver transplant. He was also had a bad motorcycle accident and his house was demolished in an earthquake……..
Don't do drugs, kids. Crosby wasted his talent. He could have been massive.
