Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some artists can have several thousand ratings)
This artist is rated in the top 2% of all artists on BestEverAlbums.com. This artist has a Bayesian average rating of 80.6/100, a mean average of 80.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 81.9/100. The standard deviation for this artist is 17.4.

THE best Hip Hop BAND today and throughout history.
I feel like Jimmy Fallon was a double edged sword to the roots, on one hand it gave them more exposure, on the other hand, now if you say you like a roots album everyone goes, isn't that the band on fallon with the drummer with the funny hair
Yes, not enough love on this site for the roots. They're one of the most respected american hip hop acts both from hip hop world and from music critics. And if that's not enough let me tell you this: they make rap with live instrumentation. Yes, they have a bassist, a drummer, a keyboardist, a guitarist, like a real band. Matter of fact they were and are the best live hip hop band around the world. They also have black thought, one of the best rappers on the scene. Beyond this, they've also made some of the best hip hop albums and have continued to do it twenty years after. Amazing.
To begin i would suggest from do you want more?!!!??! to phrenology in chronological order. These are the roots classics, showing how they evolved from jazz rap to a more sophisticated sound.
Why no love for the Roots on this site? They are hands down one of the most prolific and influential rap groups of our generation.
Why doesn't the hip-hop world recognize what they have and elevate The Roots to the throne of rap? Forget Jay-Z, Kanye, or Eminem. The Roots are the most creative, most driven, most visionary group in hip-hop. Take a listen. Holy smokes. The fact that not one of their albums have cracked the top 1000 tells me there's not enough hip-hop fans on this site.
