Update: saw Beach House on tour. They are a wicked good band live. Support them and their music. Watch them live and buy their music. They are amazing!!!

@Dunnand at the time of writing this comment, Once Twice Melody is also ranked 4th best of its year.
Fun fact, as I am looking at Beach House their top 3 rated albums Teen Dream, Bloom and 7 are all ranked 4th in their respective years.

Makes me feel like im laying on a cloud in the middle of the night watching the stars (the albums cover probably helps to paint that image). Just a beautiful record.
One of the most genuine bands I've ever heard. Victoria's voice is intimate, loving, relatable (not to mention incredibly sexy as well!), and the lyrics she sings are among some of the most empathetic I've ever heard. Alex is a great melodist and writing partner, adding a really pleasant balance to the mix, sometimes even augmenting the feeling of a track to a hole new level with his melodies. As a result the two have a pretty perfect and fruitful relationship with each other.
Sure, a lot of what they have done has been of the same brand for a while now. They have shown signs of experimenting and stepping more into shoegaze territory, but never have they fully committed to such a sound for a full album. However, I wouldn't be surprised if I wasn't the only person out there who is already infatuated enough with what they do anyway to not be bothered.
They just have a way of making you feel like you're a part of what they're doing. I care deeply for them and I feel as though they do equally for me as a listener.
