Thanks for sharing your thoughts on Chris de Burgh's music. While I can understand why you might have some reservations about his more recent albums, I have to say that I still really enjoy 'Lady in Red'. I think it's one of the most beautiful songs that showcases his talent as a songwriter and performer. That being said, it's great that Chris de Burgh's earlier works were able to help you through some tough times. I had the same experience and still enjoying his songs. Although, not every day, honestly.
Chris de Burgh is without doubt a great singer/songwriter who deserves more credit than he's ever got. I'd say his albums from Far Beyond these Castle Walls to Into the Light were superb. Power of Ten and Quiet Revolution were not bad. The one album i truly dont like is This Way Up. It came at a bad time for Chris personally and the song Blonde hair Blue Jeans is just a kick in the teeth to his wife Diane. The song just makes you squirm. Lady in Red from Into the Light, whilst giving him the single success he deserved killed his image. After that song he got a couple of minor hits then nothing. I must say that I still listen to Chris but from This Side Up onwards I don't play many of his albums. I purchase them in some kind of hope that he's come up with 'something' new but its all mediocre. Maybe he's just run out of new sounds but it's a shame. He's playing in Glasgow soon and part of me wants to go and see him but the other says I'd be better giving the £100 ticket price to some charity. His early songs live in my head and maybe it's better that I leave it that way rather than being disappointed. I'm grateful to Chris for his early works as his songs really got me through some dark times. Sorry if this review is a bit hot and cold but at his best no one can touch the great Chris de Burgh.

I remember hearing about this obscure Irish guy who was popular for some reason in Brazil on the radio in the 70ies. And they played two tracks "Patricia the Stripper" and "Broken Wings". Both of them I liked a lot. And later I also liked - against my better judgement - "A Spaceman came traveling" with the corny lyrics. Who would have thought he would later be responsible for crimes against decency like Lady in Red. He could have been a good guy but chose the evil way.
A great troubadour and storyteller.
