I agree they are the best artist of all time. They change the music completely. Every album they made was a hit. I think they know what to do and they know what the people want to hear. The Beatles have the best selling artist of all time. What can you say against?! I think i'll be right when i say they are the most influential band and the best of all.

Highly influenced by the American rockers of the 50s, their first few albums take American 50's rock to another level. Paul's ability to give the same sass as Little Richard along with other elements put them atop the "rock n' roll era". If that were the end of it, it'd still be ok. But it was far from it, with the beginning of Rubber Soul, this band etched out the gold standard to art rock/pop while few shared that standard. Sure there was that garage band that did the thing they did once a couple years earlier (fat chance they even heard the record to confirm they "stole the idea") or there were other highly acclaimed bands with artistic ideals, but few executed like The Beatles. Performance, musicality, philosophy, surrealism, psychedelia... I don't need to explain. A sea of musicians (professional or not...agnostic of a music scene), music theorists, critics, and music fans alike have already spoken.

@NowhereMan: I agree "lightning in a bottle" is an apt way to describe their trajectory.

The ability to take something musically artistic from the periphery of what is experimental and plant it directly into a commercial market and make it accessible is the real genius I have come to realise.

An astonishing recording career of 6/7 years depending on where you would like to start.

I started out listening to these before any other band; incredible to think I started out at the top of the musical Everest and the only way is down.

I continue to live and breathe them, they make me happy, they made me sad, they make me angry, they make me cry.

Lightning in a bottle.

While my tastes are wide & the Beatles may not be my all time favourite band the is no doubt theirs has been the biggest impact on the pop culture/ rock music scene. My all time favourite Beatles track probaly differs from most fans. It is 'THE Ballad of John & Yoko.

What is remarkable is that these guys put out so much good material in such a relatively short time. Most artists would be pleased with one, maybe two, iconic albums. The Beatles had at least 4, and several more that were near-legendary. Hats off to the Fab Four!
