Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some artists can have several thousand ratings)

This artist is rated in the top 1% of all artists on BestEverAlbums.com. This artist has a Bayesian average rating of 84.4/100, a mean average of 83.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 84.7/100. The standard deviation for this artist is 14.9.

Not always perfect but one of the greatest bands to come out of the 70s punk rock era. Im a Ramones fan for their extreme minimalism and influence but The Clash had something musically as well as something to say. London Calling was a straight masterpiece.

London Calling is so good that it could be a "best of" compilation in itself. Aside from that there are a handful of amazing tunes of their other albums, such as their extremely underrated "Charlie Don't Surf."

For me they were the UK punk band, so incredibly influential, they really started the whole punk-reggae cross over. They were only around for a short while but they left some great music behind them - I wish there were more bands like the Clash around today.

Punk rock and other genres blended into something with enough attitude to make you want to shout along to it and enough class to be one of the most respectable, tasteful and significant bands the UK has ever produced. The ultimate mix of politics, social problems and superb musicianship.

An undeniable sound, fueled by the unstoppable capability of Mick Jones and Joe Strummer to produce tight, furious rhythms and glorious, noisy guitar riffs, that proves that simple music can be way more powerful than even the most complex of compositions. The Clash, like many other punk bands, were loud and raucous, but they did it with style and dexterity.

My Dad introduced me to The Clash, and indeed they're probably his favourite band of all time. He's always repeated to me that famous quote that The Clash are "The only band that matters". I don't quite agree, but to suggest that they are anything less than absolutely outstanding is frankly criminal.

I'm not the biggest punk fan, but I really like The Clash, likely because they incorporated other genres and pushed boundaries.
