Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some artists can have several thousand ratings)
This artist is rated in the top 2% of all artists on BestEverAlbums.com. This artist has a Bayesian average rating of 82.5/100, a mean average of 83.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 84.6/100. The standard deviation for this artist is 13.3.

Probably the most underrated artist on this site - not a single album in the top 1000! Ludicrous
Philadelphia born Todd Rundgren first entered the music industry as a member of the group Nazz in 1967. He stayed with Nazz for three years before embarking on a solo career in 1970. On his early albums he demonstrated the ability to write some really fantastic pop songs
As well as writing some fantastic songs, he played most of the instruments and also acted as producer and arranger. In addition he has a sweet voice not dissimilar to fellow Philadelphian Daryl Hall. However just as it appeared that he was about to break into pop superstardom he changed direction so drastically that his fan base were left stunned.
In the mid seventies Rundgren fully embraced electronic music and progressive rock with his band Utopia and produced some challenging music which developed a strong cult following. He also became hugely in demand as a producer working with Hall and Oates, New York Dolls and Grand Funk Railroad. His most famous work as a producer would come with Meatloaf’s multi million seller Bat Out of Hell.
Rundgren then immersed himself in new computer technologies, video and the internet, forever experimenting and innovating. He still kept up a steady recording schedule to keep his loyal fan base happy. Always his own man the fact remains that in his early days produced some wonderful pop music and although some, including this writer mourn the fact that he moved into other fields, his versatility and passion for the new can only be applauded. Rundgren never really enjoyed the commercial success that his talent deserved, perhaps he never wanted it, but it is a shame his genius is not more widely recognised.
Prolific Producer (Meatloaf's Bat out of Hell, the Cars debut as well as many many others)... awesome musician...believe me he can shred...always experimenting with new styles...I always preferred him with his progressive rock band Utopia but the man has also written some of the best rock classics of all time...
This guy's really interesting. Cool electronic arrangements and he's just a good songwriter!
