The godfathers of punk, the purveyors of distortion guitar leading to metal, but often receding into pastoral English tuneage as well as hard rocking riffs. A very diverse band with a very long history and decades of top shelf music bolstered by one of the great songwriters of all time. Unique and timeless. Easily the most underrated and possibly the most influential rock band of all time. Everybody wanted to sound like the Beatles in the sixties, but listen to any rock/alt-rock from the 90s - 2010s and you're more likely to hear the Kinks at its core.

This is the second best band of the British invasion, and quite possibly the most underrated band ever. They weren't quite as good as The Beatles, but not by as far as one might think.

This may be the one band that started in the early/mid 60's and was worth listening to up till the 80's. They may not have been as good as the Beatles, but they were just as creative.

Dave Davis developed his tone by accident. Fed up with the clean amps of the time, in a fit of rage he mutilated an amp cone with a razorblade, thus inventing heavy metal!

Equalled anything the Beatles or Stones did in the 60's.

Honestly, To sit down and listen to a complete album from the Who, Rolling Stones, or the Kinks. Era 60's & 70's When they were all peaking. My opinion the Kinks have them all beat! Face to Face, Something Else, Arthur, And Especially Village Green. Putting them up against even the Beatles I have to give it to the Kinks. Their music has not dated. Great British Band and my favorite from 14 years old till now. If you where lucky enough to see them live only adds to their talent. Amazing Live Group. With Ray's deft hand, writing and front man performance And Dave on lead guitar, WOW!!

Did you know that the Davis brothers were born with folds in their gentleman's bits. This is how the band got their name.

Underrated band... In the 60's they may not have been on the same level as the Beatles or Stones, but they certainly were as good as the Who or anyone else.

Their early work is influential in being probably one of the earliest examples of protopunk, but they vastly changed as the 60s went on. They became a more soft-spoken and melodic group, and it was for the better. Their late 60s and early 70s work is some of the most timeless music of the British invasion. Not a bit of it has aged poorly.

A fantastic band. Ray Davies songwriting was introspective, witty and humorous at the same time....but make no mistake about it, Dave's raw, aggressive guitar work is what gave The Kinks their signature sound. It is also what made them one of the biggest early influences on hard rock.
