The ultimate summer album. Charmingly quaint lyrics with the pop-y but undeniably charismatic sound that The Shins/James Mercer still hold as their claim to fame after all these years. The truly great thing about James's writing style is that his music never relies on gimmicks, yet never shy's away from taking risks. It's the type of music that can be shown to anybody to introduce them to the Indie Genre. From the simple yet anthemic 'New Slang', to the bright and summery 'Caring is Creepy', to the punching, bold 'Pressed in a Book': every song takes the listener to a whole new landscape while still remaining in the bright world that is 'Oh, Inverted World'

..except for Your Algebra... idk what is up with that song

I'm so happy that these guys are getting more popular! super solid indie rock with enough variance to remain engaging. Plus Frances has some of the best female vocals for this genre ever.
New recorded version of Sister Cities is not as good but whatevs still a great song.

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 12% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 87.7/100, a mean average of 88.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 88.1/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 8.4.

I sure hope you finish the description for In Rainbows, describing shortly every track, cause that was wonderful

We are 2 generations apart and have 1 album in common (which is kind of cool) - but I love your emotional (spiritual/fun) attachment to your chosen 100. If I was 40 years younger, I can imagine having a top 100 chart just like yours. Nice to see a couple of Aussie albums in the mix ~ although (IMHO) there are plenty more better Aussie artists than KG&TLW.

Really like this list and from the sounds of it I'd like the person behind it too. Keep it up with the notes, only thing I'd say is that there's a real dearth of pre-90s stuff (obviously) that makes me think there's a ton of older cuts you might be missing out on. Go get 'em!

Algernon Cadwallader #2 is a bold pick even though I prefer Parrot Files.

LOL, I'm a big gay and bastard about Wolfgang too!
I liked your decision to rank Funeral where it should be placed - in the middle of the chart. Most of the guys here love it too much.

Suggestions:

1. Check more albums by Phoenix and Vampire Weekend, especially It's Never Been Like That and Modern Vampires Of The City.
2. Both albums of Freelance Whales, especially Diluvia.
3. Soundtracks For Everyday Adventures by Lullatone.

Your comments for the first two entries are absolutely perfect!!! When you compared the songs from In Rainbows to different types of streams and rivers I probably lost my mind at how cool that simile was!!!!

Pretty good chart, but should probably include some older music (I can't really complain though, my chart is only 25% pre-2000)
I recommend trying The Velvet Underground's third album simply titled The Velvet Underground, and Disintegration by The Cure. Based on your picks I think you'd really dig those two.
