Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by henrygreen0203 Unknown

100 artists, 100 albums released between the 1950s-2020s. I unashamedly love the music of American "hillbillies" playing rock music (the literal meaning of "rockabilly") but I also like singer-songwriter country-folk, power-pop, alternative rock and alternative R&B.

I include my ratings and my recommendations.

I hope you discover something here that you never dreamed you would enjoy!

My favorite female-fronted American band of the 2020s.

GENRE: Indie Pop

Beach Bunny have a knack for driving guitars, sing-along choruses and hooky choruses, drenched in heart-on-sleeve lyrics performed by a vocalist that truly sounds like shes bearing her soul and laying it all out for the listener

This is excellent power pop meets indie rock.

My favorite female-fronted American band of the 2010s.

GENRE: Indie Pop

Hayley Williams is by far the finest lyricist of my generation. She really writes from the heart, and this incarnation of the band is more bittersweet than angsty, and the new wave sounds fits the group well. Excellent.

My favorite female-fronted American band of the 2000s.

GENRE: Indie Pop

For whatever reason, Rilo Kiley frequently gets overlooked but they were certainly one of the finest indie bands of the 2000s and this album stands up to that statement.

My favorite female-fronted American band of the 1990s.

GENRE: Alternative Rock

Blonder and Blonder is a dynamic synthesis of energetic rock and the timeless vocals and harmonies of the British Invasion, with just enough rough edges to keep it interesting.

Produced by Rob Cavallo (Green Day, Goo Goo Dolls), the group delivers a terrific and well-produced set. Vocalist and songwriter Kim Shattuck is the star of the show, with songs so full of heart that you can't help but smile.

Groundbreaking 80s alternative band that had a hit. Great all-around rock record littered with surf-rock licks and songs with substance.

Christgau called it a successful hybrid of Dixie Cups and...some punk group. I have to agree. Another classic.

My favorite female-fronted American band of the 1960s.

GENRE: Girl Group

Dixie Cups stand out from other girl groups of the same era simply because the dynamic performances are accompanied by organic R&B production. Excellent songs too. This LP was pretty influential.

My favorite female-fronted American band of the 1950s.

GENRE: Girl Group

One of the earliest girl groups produced the smash track Maybe that influenced many, including everyone from Janis Joplin to John Frusciante to Miley Cyrus. It may be too sweet for some, but it's a wonderful sound from a distinctive era.

GENRE: Country-Folk

Griffith sings with the sweetness of Joan Baez and the grit of Wanda Jackson. Her original songs are sweet and sentimental.

GENRE: Heartland Rock / Contemporary Country

Carpenter was the most commercially successful "great credibility scare" artist. She took her coffehouse-meets-dance hall sound to the top with this hit album, with enough hit singles to rival Garth Brooks' massive No Fences album. And after the hits, there are several mud-tempo tracks and ballads that are just stellar.

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 87.1/100, a mean average of 86.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 87.2/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 14.3.

Like the chart a lot. Just out of interest, was the 12 or 13 per decade deliberate or a happy coincidence?
