Much respect, even if my aesthetic doesn't align in the album era past about 20-30 of these (which is still kind of high). Beatles4EVR... hehe.
Forgot to mention that this chart is great. Here's my favorites off of it
1.In The Aeroplane Over The Sea
2.Blonde On Blonde
3.The Downward Spiral
4.Trout Mask Replica
5.Down Colorful Hill
7.In The Court of The Crimson King
10.Highway 61 Revisited
12.Piper At The Gates of Dawn
To get more insight into my criteria, including correlations with Scaruffi, go here: https://www.besteveralbums.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=15503
If you continue down from the Criteria page, you will find a "reviews" page that I began very recently and hope to find time to continue to expand. Also, variously, throughout that thread I am pretty sure there are various points where I delve into insights on The River and perhaps some other albums, including visual art such as The Sistine Chapel, Bosch's Garden of Earthly Delights... and at certain points on my various genre lists (Pop, Blues/Country, Folk/Singer-Songwriter). All of those are in the "Music Diaries" forum.
There is also a decent helping of Paintings analysis on my "Greatest Paintings" list (in the Lounge Forum) and, for Cinema, a massive (though incomplete) Citizen Kane and Nostalghia analysis (Movies and TV forum), all of which I hope to consolidate at some point in their own "Criteria & Guide For Art" pages (probably one for music, one for paintings, one for Film -- something like that) <-- still under consideration...
Really really good list whose 60s and 70s picks give us something different to the mainstream dad-rock (phew!!).
I'd love to see some of your personal thoughts on these albums in note form; I've noticed that quite a few of these picks are Scaruffi favourites (nothing intrinsically wrong with that, he's a man with a refined palette) and get the impression you rate his opinion very highly. I don't share his aversion to the 21st century and as much as I adore Joanna Newsom I can't agree that she's made the two best albums of the last 21 years (as per your chart), but I respect your opinion nonetheless.
Here's a few underground favourites of mine from the last two decades that hopefully make the musical landscape today seem less doom and gloom!
Stars Of The Lid - The Tired Sounds Of Stars Of The Lid (2001)
Tim Hecker - Virgins (2013)
The Field - From Here We Go Sublime (2007)
The Brave Little Abacus - Just Got Back From The Discomfort, We're Alright (2010)
Julianna Barwick - The Magic Place (2011)
@ Heavychair ... Nope havent heard them. Wyatt seems like one of those artists that would be near impossible to adequately cover!
Guess you could say that for just about every artist here... but some (like Wyatt) even more than others...
Looking at the cover makes me wanna eat porridge in the summer-morning, while hearing it XD
@ raadfactoryxny ...
Stardust particles, seaweed, ocean water and moonbeams :)
I'm gonna experience Rock Bottom by Robert Wyatt in June, any suggestions of food/drinks, fitting to that album???!?
Disagreements aside. I kinda like your chart! A bit too tame and acoustic as I would’ve expected, but I can notice by this that you’ve listened a lot of music.
