Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by tgarritsen (2018)

« View previous chartView next chart »

I want this chart to be the best possible representation of what music means to me. Music is much more than just beautiful sounds. It’s an ultimate expression. So instead of judging these albums merely by their musicality, I looked heavily at the albums that I think where the best at expressing a powerful message or feeling that I connect the most with. What does the album really stand for? Since this chart ranks the greatest albums of all time I focused more on the albums that stand out as a whole, instead of just being a collection of songs that seem to be thrown together without much thought.

It’s all about the musical experience the album adds to the chart. That’s why I tried to limit the amount of albums from the same artists as much as I could. Only if the artists made more than one album that is unique or exceptionally great on its own does it qualify to be ranked on this chart.

I added my favorite lyrics and tracks from the albums.

The intro to your chart really put me off. I basically read: “If I am honest about what I actually like, the result might get ridiculed by people, so I started judging music on aspects that are completely unrelated to music.” C’mon man, fuck what people think, this sounds a bit - hey you’re dutch - ‘laf’. Music is just beautiful sounds; books are about the message.

I was surprised to see that your chart consists of a lot of different genres and it shows a lot of variation in accessible music and more experimental picks. So yeah, I like your chart, but I’m not a fan of the intro, but don’t change it because of my criticism, ‘cause then you’re doing exactly what I’m criticizing. Plus most people probably agree with what you described in your intro.

Great chart 15 albums in common and great to see Erykah and Frank Ocean in a chart along with T.Rex, Bowie, Joni the Stones & Neil Young. To top all that Stevie's Songs In The Key Of Life, what's not to like

Quite interesting. Love to see some not so popular albums high up like Grace and Raw Power so high. Also a nice representation of rap. The main problem here for me is 63% American albums and a strong gravitation towards some genres. But it's subjective and nice, please add descriptions!
