Here i will list my favorite artists of all-time. This list takes into account an artist's entire catalogue, giving highest marks to quality across quantity. (I will list my fav album by each artist.) This list is subjective not really based on BEA-entered data.

Runners up: the minus 5, fun/the_format, iron & wine, of montreal, sheryl crow, gram parsons, the bee gees. You can probably find a bunch of these artists on the continuation of this chart, "all-time fav artists (subj), #101-200".

More Songs About Buildings And Food

Talking Heads

One of the biggest influences on 00s/10s indie rock, the Talking Heads were the best oddball alternative act of the 70s and 80s. Their song structures were quite complex for a rock act that consistently peaked its head into pop/rock radio. David Byrne's creative vision was singular and expressive. Spoon

Spoon has consistently put out some of the catchiest indie rock of the last decade mostly sticking to brief pop hooks. Huey Lewis & The News wrote really catchy pop/rock songs with a special inflection of horns, harmonica and doo-wop that their contemporaries didn't have. Queen

Queen were rock opera pioneers in their day, culimanting with Wayne & Garth's favorite tune. From "we will rock you" to "we are the champions" up until Freddie's demise, Queen rocked hardest in the 70s and put out a bunch of very good albums along the way. [First added to this chart: 01/21/2014]

Duran Duran (The Wedding Album)

Duran Duran

I had to place Duran Duran ahead of the next 3 artists based on Duran Duran's sheer volume of great hits. The 6 albums of theirs that make my top 800+ don't chart so high on my 800+ list, but their synthy brand of pop/rock was the coolest thing there in the mid-80s circa "wild boys" and "the reflex". Then when you thought they belonged in an 80s vault, they came back with the "wedding album", trading some grooves for hauntingly tragic love stories. [First added to this chart: 01/10/2017]

Madonna

With the choices becoming tougher, I turn to the long body of work Madonna brought between "lucky star" and the "Music" album. She set a ton of pop trends that current talentless hacks follow, mostly in the style category, but her pop sensibilities were undeniable. The only issue is that her albums were mostly hit-and-miss, but she had a ton of hits in over 15 years. [First added to this chart: 01/21/2014]

Paul McCartney

It's weird that my favorite album by Paul McCartney (and Wings), an artist that's been around since the mid-60s, is the last album he put out in 2013. I've heard other albums from him, including Wings and with Linda ("Ram"), and there are parts i really like coming from his pop sensibilities; but all of his albums have seemed a little spotty, like he loses focus now'n'then. Anyway, McCartney is pop, and is again a-New. [First added to this chart: 01/21/2014]

Fleetwood Mac

Fleetwood Mac was a pop/rock powerhouse supergroup that ruled a decade from the mid-70s. Even succumbing to 80s pop radio, they still were able to churn out solid albums. Nice concept. There's a humorous typo on Nine Inch Nails. I think you mean self-flagellating, not self-flatulating.
