I waited a long time to describe what is for me the dark side, and I realized that the best way is to analyze song by song:
- Speak To Me: At first, I did not think this track as a song, but rather it was a simple intro. However, once i listened to it carefully, It really blew my mind! The sound simulating a beating heart is the rarest and invasive rhythm I felt in my life.
- Breath: One of the best songs on the album, as it creates one of the best atmospheres of it. It's amazing what a simple letter like this can do accompanied by a bass played really well by Waters. It definitely gives me the feeling that I'm listening to something from another planet.
- On The Run: This song is really a mental journey, with synthesizer creating never before perceived sensations. The effect synthesizer that simulates a car (in my opinion), which goes from right to left, is totally shocking and fascinating, as it seems that the sound goes through you.
- Time: One of the most complete songs on the disc, with no doubt one of the best guitar solo in history. This song, at the same time, is a lot of songs with the great passage of clocks ringing, with the long introduction of drums, and a verse that, at least to me, takes me back to a classic rock style with Hendrix , which then is cut with a chorus own of the dark side, that changes the whole perspective of the song and creates an atmosphere similar to Breath's one. I think the guitar solo is just the best of song, as it is totally mind blowing and fits perfectly with the rest of the song. In short, it is a sample of what Floyd was able to do at the time.
- The Great Gig In The Sky: This is undoubtedly a masterpiece, and the best composition Wright made as an artist. I always interpreted as a continuous song as the piano continues creating a melody despite the totally mind blowing Clare Torry cry, which is what gives the song that feeling of infinite sadness and pain. It's really hard to come back from this song, as it takes you to a very high point of the album. So, I think, they had to continue it with a track that has little to do with this, as is Money. I think this is my favorite song.
- Money: At first I did not like it one bit, to the point that I've skipped several times. Money has little to do with the album itself, but rather in its way, is a very good track in which Dick Perry uses the saxophone in a way never seen before: as an instrument of rock. The truth is I'd rather listen Money separately and not with the disc.
- Us And Them: Another composition that gives an interesting twist to the disc, and again creates this spatial sense, typical of the disc. The song has a soft, soothing verse, wich emits that particular feeling that gives the echo of Gilmour. I think the chorus as one semi apocalyptic, for the choruses and especially the saxophone again used in a very innovative way. Perry's solo is one of the most majestic things I've heard.
- Any Colour You Like: A quick and accurate improvisation, which leads to one of the most psychedelic places in the album, with the synthesizers creating melodies to continue giving shape to the album. This song is difficult for me to describe it, and at the same time, i really like it.
- Brain Damage: The most special song on the album, so the melody is amazing, and because the song talks about Syd and his mental state, so it is very easy to interpret the song as a sad and melancholy. However, this song is totally mind blowing (i Said That in every song) and is also the best song of Waters, in my opinion.
- Eclipse: What better way to end an album taking everything and putting it in a song, to create a stunning composition that makes feel chills every time you hear it. Eclipse has that great that led to the universal, where everything is connected to everything, and everything is under the sun is in tune, but the sun is eclipsed by the moon.
In short, this is the best album in history, and created in me something that I will never be able to forget, it really marked me. [First added to this chart: 08/04/2014]

Another masterpiece of Floyd, which in my opinion is one of the best expression of progressive rock in the world. At the time, they believe themselves unable to maintain the same level as The Dark Side Of The Moon. Not only could they do that, they also experimented with new sounds as they tried to produce a record only with homemade instruments, which then would take shape as the sound of the cups at Shine On.
It is an album that knows how to touch the bottom of the soul. Shine on is just the combination of perfect melodies, and the best representation of the three composers of Pink Floyd working together. With its beautiful melodies is easy to believe that one is in another place as these tunes appear from nowhere, as coming with the wind. Welcome to the machine is a constant scream of desperation that fissures to force our persepcion of the album. Really powerfull. I think that Have A Cigar is the lowest point of the album, however it has the ascent tipical of the album, wich also is in Welcome and in the second part of Shine on. That part, the part VI-IX of Shine On, is excellent, Gilmour's solo in the beginning is totally mind-blowing! Somehow, we all sang the chorus of the song, all together, to form a new voice. For then comes the huge, the gigantic, Richard Wright with one of his best tunes, with that aspect of funeral march, which again makes us lock ourselves in the deepest part of us, and observe everything with new eyes, as if they were black holes in the sky. And then that's it, the man on fire is now ashes, and we are stunned, still asking ourselves if what we just heard is real.
Favourites tracks: Shine On You Crazy Diamond - Wish You Were Here - Welcome To The Machine [First added to this chart: 08/05/2014]
It is an album that knows how to touch the bottom of the soul. Shine on is just the combination of perfect melodies, and the best representation of the three composers of Pink Floyd working together. With its beautiful melodies is easy to believe that one is in another place as these tunes appear from nowhere, as coming with the wind. Welcome to the machine is a constant scream of desperation that fissures to force our persepcion of the album. Really powerfull. I think that Have A Cigar is the lowest point of the album, however it has the ascent tipical of the album, wich also is in Welcome and in the second part of Shine on. That part, the part VI-IX of Shine On, is excellent, Gilmour's solo in the beginning is totally mind-blowing! Somehow, we all sang the chorus of the song, all together, to form a new voice. For then comes the huge, the gigantic, Richard Wright with one of his best tunes, with that aspect of funeral march, which again makes us lock ourselves in the deepest part of us, and observe everything with new eyes, as if they were black holes in the sky. Meddle is undoubtedly a turning point in Pink Floyd, because that's when they began to compose mainly progressive rock, which then would lead to The Dark Side. In my opinion it is a highly underrated album of the Floyd, and I think seriously it is one of the best albums by them, as it contains their best song, Echoes.
It is an album, full of great melodies from One of these days to Echoes. A Pillow Of Winds is one of the few acoustic gems that left us, that despite that, it has the characteristic sound of Floyd, who turns everything cold and blue. I think it's the best song of Gilmour and Waters as a duo. Nothing has more rhythm San Tropez, and is a really strange track on Pink Floyd, but surprisingly, not Meddle. His jazz tune awake in me something that was previously asleep, a certain liking to this kind of music. It is the perfect bridge to begin to appreciate good music of the 50s'. I never interpreted to "Seamus" as a song, but as a simple blues. Although it is the worst song on the album, is a matter of contrast.
The intro of echoes is one of the great works of Wright, It's like a tunnel that leads to the deepest part of the ocean. What follows is indescribable, or at least very difficult. It's just a melody that, besides move like a pendulum, is very deep and representative, and it is accompanied by a beautiful poetry, one of the best of Waters. The riff that used to cut the melody is debastador, and the solo is totally mind-blowing, is the cry of the guitars of all time into one. The improvisation part is also good, I think it's a reflection of the more experimental stage Pink Floyd, which had just concluded. This is where Gilmour shows how good guitarist is. I always thought the sharp sounds like squeals of animals, wanting to go home. This clearly serves as an interlude in the song, is a return to the mud of guilt, in order to returt to Mr Wright with his Hammond Organ and redo everything. It is a slow ascent, one beautiful, one that makes us impatient, that grows within us. It is like a seed in the middle of the soul, which grows constantly. The riff announcing the imminent arrival, the end of the battle. And again the unique melody, again for just a few seconds, we are in the most beautiful place in that sweet limbo. Which is then completely destroyed by the incredible riff that brings out the most primitive of us. Finally, the coda, that nostalgia and melancholy accumulated that finally is expressed, and leaves us with the tear in the middle of the face.

All these details on pink floyd albums warrant a good note. Im not a big fan of Radiohead personally but apart from that, that's a really good list.

Kind of hypocritical that you claim not to like pop music's aesthetic, then put a clichéd pop-rap album in the top 20.
However, your descriptions - eSPECIALLY on Pink Floyd - are astounding! Big thumbs up for that.

At last, the person who loves Pink Floyd as much as I do. Echoes and Brain Damage/Eclipse are my favourite Floyd songs and everything from Atom Heart Mother to the Final Cut are perfect albums.
