Yet another nostalgic favourite from less complicated times gone by. Side One is still as damn near perfect as music gets, imo. And also does what it says on the tin - THE great Saturday night soundtrack! [First added to this chart: 07/01/2014]

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 84.6/100, a mean average of 82.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 84.4/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 15.5.

On a revisit: Personally, I don't like having compilations in my list, but you do you. !!!!!!!!!!STEVE /FUCKING/ MCQUEEN!!!!!!! is such an awesome album. I agree that it does totally encapsulate everything that was awesome about the 80s.

Fine chart. Got a little too much disco for my taste, but some excellence in there too. Plus I really like your little descriptions, that makes the chart more interesting. :)

Good chart, I enjoyed reading the comments, nice to see someone else who appreciates Radiohead's TKOL remix album, albeit it is not on my all-time chart but in my 2010s chart. I must admit that Reeling In The Years aside I have never heard any Steely Dan. I will have to listen to Aja and their greatest hits. Ditto Donald Fagen. Education of musical tastes is what this is all about for me. Enjoyed this chart, its eclectic and fun and I like how you placed The Eagles next to The Dead Kennedys. Cool stuff.

An interesting chart with a lot of personality. Steely Dan's Aja was buried deep in my playlist... thanks for the nudge ;)

Beautiful list. Personal but with arguments for nearly each choice. Funny how the german Steely Dan fans of our generation say "Gaucho" as the british say "Aja". I found the 80s quite interesting, but yes, I remember well too, when "Swoon" and "Steve McQueen" came out and how their beauty unfolded slowly. A friend of mine liked David Ackles a lot, maybe Steve Young would be a good companion or David Blue oder Mac Gayden but you might have them on your list already.

Interesting list. Many good classic 70s, Bowie and Fagen but also some personal newer favorites like Sufjan, Josh Rouse, Pnau. AND Eg and Alice! I've been looking for that album for a while now....
