101-200, The Waiting Room (Or The Obligatory Next Ton) of Dread by Jimmy Dread

Yep, I've caved in to doing a chart with another 100 LPs that would otherwise be in the all-time 100 were it not for the fact that there's 100 albums better. Not that there's much wrong with any of these picks - they're all zingers (and on any given day one of the first 50 in this list could easily sneak into the 100 when one of the incumbents has their back turned). Be amazed as some albums that you're likely sick to death of co-exist with obscure shit from Brazil or Jamaica. Enjoy it whilst it lasts, as being the pinickity git I am I'll probably delete this chart in a fit of rage when my son decides to run off with my DAC again. Out of all the the charts of mine on here, this is probably the most likely to fluctuate, and will more likely reflect my current listening habits than even my overall 100 (of which a few of these LPs will doubtlessly make in due time). Comments to follow where there are none when I can be arsed, plunder it for recs all you like... Jimmy, May 2021

PICK - If I Can't Change Your Mind; FIRST HEARD: NME recommendation. Responsible for later love of Husker Du. I got Husker Du's debut LP "Everything Falls Apart" from Our Price in Farnborough expecting it to sound similar to this. Oops. Had to get my mum to take it back as was too embarrassed to do so myself.

PICK - Broken Face. FIRST HEARD: Peter's flat, Farnham. My old band mate had a poster of the slightly risque cover sitting in his digs, and every time I see a Spanish flamenco dancer with her knockers out I am reminded of this. My fave Pixies album - they sound at home with Albini. [First added to this chart: 05/30/2020]

PICK - Come Saturday; FIRST HEARD: at work (thanks to Will). Although they've been going for years, Slumberland is fast becoming the essential twee-pop record label of the 21st century, and this is their finest hour. Great live - in fact the only band I've ever seen alone as my gig buddy Anna was ill the day they played the Lexington. There's no substitute for youth, guitars and a cute keyboard player. PICK - Come On! Feel The Illinoise; FIRST HEARD: via Pitchfork. I often thought it would be a good idea to pen an album about every English county. "Now That's What I Call Rutland" unfortunately never saw the light of day. [First added to this chart: 08/09/2014]

PICK - The Beat; FIRST HEARD: Soul Jazz compy. It's taken a while for ESG to click with me - the blend of no-wave funk and NY attitude has long been threatening to infiltrate my eardrums, so it comes as no surprise that given my dancing best represents someone with no ability to control their upper limbs that this LP soundtracks many a happy evening bopping around in the garden whilst smoking a cig. PICK - Blue Crystal Fire; FIRST HEARD: via Meccalecca on BEA. Jonny sure came up trumps with this, a beautiful exercise in 12-string lushness. Whilst I adore this record, it will forever remind me of the final few trips to visit my Mum in a hospice before cancer robbed us of her. Blue Crystal Fire is one of those rare moments of beauty that can reduce a grown man to tears. [First added to this chart: 07/23/2015]
