Top 100 Music Albums of 2015 by Patman360

So this year I'm going to give a brief overview on how I feel about the album (May be complete rubbish and not even remotely describe how the album sounds so apologies about that...). I've also included vague genre descriptions, lyrics that stood out for me personally and a 'Blast from the Past' feature, which is simply another album that may strike similar chords and memories with me, even if they have no sound in common whatsoever, sometimes it may be from the same artist, sometimes not.

Feel free to leave me some recommendations based on what you see, they're most welcome!

Happy listening!

Sorry about the Irish overload...

Edit: Busy as fuck lately, sorry lads...

A pleasant power pop/electro throwback to the 80's. It's fantastic and yes, it sounds exactly as the cover suggests. It's like Daft Punk, only quite more retroesque, should that make sense. For those of you who've played Hotline Miami, this would be an apt soundtrack. An album full of joyful, pumping 80's dance music, I'm hooked.

A lovely second album from a Cork band and something I've been very excited about, sure they're no world changing band, but there's just something about them, the perfect blend of folk meets blues meets pop, baroque pop I guess? Kind of like Fleet Foxes but much better (and that's coming from a guy who quite likes Fleet Foxes). Some of you may have noticed their debut on my overall chart (ha, who looks there really...) and while this may not seem as strong at first, it's still very good and I feel it still has more to give. Hit it up, tis on bandcamp.

Fantastic, bubblegum indie pop with a lo-fi, Mac DeMarco-esque twang about it. One of my favourites so far this year and could easily be pushing for top spot, it's lovely, quite quirky fun. Everyone needs this, I guess in a way it's a less polished equivalent of 'Girls In Peacetime Want To Dance' (Which is by no means a bad thing, so yeah, go listen to this now! Especially if you're a fan of lovely sweet catchy indie pop.

More lovely indie and noisy pop tunes outta Dublin (great place for indie pop right now!) which make for a perfect bubbly Summer album (if you've got good weather, which Ireland of course hasn't...). Maybe a bit more polished than other similar releases at times (I love stuff that's a bit rawer) but lovely chiming tunes nonetheless. Get to it!

Every bit the equal of my current number 1. It's fascinating, simply fascinating. A magnificent alignment of noise to create beautiful star gazing, serene music. Hearing stuff like this actually makes me consider going to mass. The sound of the pipe organ when used in this manner is just incredible, spine-tingling. Heck, it even makes the hoover in the background sound impressive. Never thought I'd get so much joy out of 'church music', so to speak. Simply wonderful.

Jape's back with his first album in four years and it's the perfect blend of pop and electronica we've come to expect from the man yet again. Another worthwhile cog in his repertoire. Poundingly smooth beats set the tone for some lovely pop tunes that could make a dancefloor rock deep into the night. Admittedly I am a big Jape fan (More biases from me...), but it's thoroughly good stuff and could become my favourite of his albums sooner rather than later. Good fun.

More Irish electro-pop from a big name act, a band in the past who’ve been regarded as everything from new wave and indie through to shoegazing deliver some lovely energetic pop tunes while at the same time keeping the old vibes that made such an attractive artist from my point of view. Another bunch of tunes that’ll make great summer anthems for myself and hopefully many others. Once upon a time I would’ve detested electronic/pop/dance stuff, now I’ve grown into I feel, this is shit you can groove to all night long.

I never thought I'd ever really find some hip-hop made in Ireland worth a listen, but last years fantastic 'Rusangano / Family' by God Knows + mynameisjOhn changed my thoughts on that. Now it's the turn of one of their collaborators, MuRli, to step up into the limelight and he shines in it. The man, of Togolese descent but residing in Limerick, has a story to deliver and the way he tells it is perfect, delivering it alongside power-pumping African influenced beats. Slick, charismatic, booming hip-hop.

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 1% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 92.0/100, a mean average of 95.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 95.3/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 6.2.
