Like Illinois, it's one of the best indie folk albums ever made and uses a rich palette of instrumentation. Unlike Illinois, it shuns the grandiose in favor of the tender, close moments that evoke a keen sense of nostalgia.

I'm not sure Clapton or Bruce would make it to this list on their own. But this record combines the best of their abilities. Spooky and cool.

More segmented songwriting by each member than the debut by CSN, but essentially a compilation of some of the strongest songs of each musician's career. Nevertheless, as musicians they collaborate. "Carry On" has perhaps the best harmonies ever put to record.

The songwriting is bracingly sincere, Grohl writing about Cobain's death ("Let It Die", confirmed, one of his groupies), his child ("Come Alive"), and perhaps fame's temporary quality ("Statues"). The highlight, however, is "Stranger Things Have Happened", a dusty guitar ballad which remains the only song I know of featuring an audible metronome.

I went between this one and Mellon Collie for a while, but I hate to say (from Corgan's perspective at least) that I side with the "annoying Millennials" who want their records "absolutely perfect."

So much brilliant effort put into this chart!! Your notes are extensive and personal (especially those for Illinois!), and though looking at the first couple of picks I got worried that I'd find things a little too classic-rock orientated, the smattering of jazz and hip hop provided a refreshing change from the rest of your picks. Well done!
