The most emotionally-affective album of ANY singer-songwriter. Mitchell's songs not only depict emotional tenderness but also looks for stability and meaning among the people and places closest to her heart. It's amazing how much is expressed with so little.

Ian Anderson is one of the most underrated writers in the history of rock music. Not only was he a genius with song structure but he captured the human need and love of the pastoral- bringing dignified standards of 19th century classical music (not to mention English folk song) to rock music.

I don't think anybody had more fun recording an album than this guy. Also everything is so sweet! The cover says it all: each song is a rose offered to the listener to relax and love life's little moments.

A celebration of the music of America by a bunch of Brits camped out in France. In any case, few other records have so clearly captured that homegrown, preachy quality of this record, all without losing the confidence and control of a roaringly successful rock band on the road.

Drake is the ultimate bourgeois aristocratic loner, which is maybe why "Poor Boy" is one of my favorite songs of his: his unusual meditation on entering the rank of the beggars is the closest rock has ever gotten to Dickens. Meanwhile the collaborations with John Cale reference hope in the great beyond.

So much brilliant effort put into this chart!! Your notes are extensive and personal (especially those for Illinois!), and though looking at the first couple of picks I got worried that I'd find things a little too classic-rock orientated, the smattering of jazz and hip hop provided a refreshing change from the rest of your picks. Well done!
