Superunknown was a remarkable step forward for an already badass rock group. The musicians reach into your consciousness and shatter its foundations. There's really nothing like Cornell's incredibly nuanced singing or Thayil's unpredictable and liberating solos. [First added to this chart: 01/07/2015]

A highly confessional record, Grohl furiously indicts while asking for strength and support from the (rightfully?) unsympathetic crowd. The music is filled with angst and distortion but there's also the sheen of the chance to bounce back and start anew. Probably no other album makes you feel more alive. Emotionally honest, dreamy and beautiful, like a fairy tale. For whatever reason, this is my favorite coming-of-age album, even though I'm not sure if anybody other than me calls it that! Don't overlook "Ignoreland"- boy do those lyrics ring true. [First added to this chart: 03/06/2015]

Some of the most sensitive, darkest, not to mention sexiest music ever made, that richly contemplates what really makes us feel content and "whole" and what makes us feel lost and confused. Sometimes, I wish that social scientists would just shut up and listen to this (not to mention more people on this site!) [First added to this chart: 04/24/2015]

Finding yourself lost in a sea of beautiful and tender emotions, this preserves in sonic form the most tender moments of our lives, and I love the name of the album: "loveless." Because acknowledging what we don't feel at the present means that there's hope that one day we will feel it again. Genius. [First added to this chart: 01/14/2015]

FF's follow-up to "The Colour & the Shape" must have been very dissappointing to hear at first. But spend some time with it, and you will fall deeply in love. Dave mentioned that it was pretty much made with him "chilling at home, having barbecues, and listening to the sounds of the studio out in a Virginia backyard." If this was the last thing I listened to before I died, I think I would go pretty peacefully. [First added to this chart: 01/14/2015]

I went between this one and Mellon Collie for a while, but I hate to say (from Corgan's perspective at least) that I side with the "annoying Millennials" who want their records "absolutely perfect." [First added to this chart: 06/07/2016]

"When you're back in your old neighborhood...you're so misunderstood" Beauty in placelessness fills this album, less "artsy" than future Wilco releases but all the better for it. Will comfort you on the loneliest nights. [First added to this chart: 10/26/2015]

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 4% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 89.1/100, a mean average of 89.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 89.6/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 8.0.

I really like to see some love for Hendrix, he seems to be a bit overlooked on this site... but well, that includes me actually.

I love how you aren't entirely skewed towards old or new music on this chart, I find that fairly rare on this site

So much brilliant effort put into this chart!! Your notes are extensive and personal (especially those for Illinois!), and though looking at the first couple of picks I got worried that I'd find things a little too classic-rock orientated, the smattering of jazz and hip hop provided a refreshing change from the rest of your picks. Well done!

I really wish I could give this chart a 150/100 after seeing you say Stranger Things Have Happened is the highlight of Echoes, Silence, Patience, and Grace.

Quadrophenia rules! So does Superunknown. Lots of good choices here. Glad to see someone else appreciates There is Nothing Left to Lose.
