Very Good Plus - Vital Vinyl (Collector's Edition) by Jimmy Dread

I'm currently in my second phase of buying vinyl, having acquired a fair bit at the start of the 21st Century and only starting again at the start of 2015 when my wife bought me a shiny new turntable. I wonder if she realised what would happen as a result...

Amazingly some of the LPs I've acquired during my last vinyl buying phase and over the last couple of years (either from second hand record shops on the cheap or car boot sales) are now worth a packet. Here's a list of the records I have in my collection which according to Discogs are worth the most. Pour scorn over my taste if you must, or make me an offer (although can't see me selling any of these in a hurry). Just get out your anti-static record cleaner, record brush and micro-fibre cloth and go bananas! All original presses here unless stated/good reason or story behind them - take you coloured 180g represses taken from a CD source and put them on your Crosley Cruiser record player like I imagine some here do. Jimmy, September 2019.

Portobello Market. Quite possibly my favourite way to spend a Sunday morning is driving up to Ladbroke Grove and going for a wander around the record shops (Honest Jon's, Rough Trade) and market stalls on Portobello Road. I've picked up some corkers over the years, but none better than this, a first Studio One press of bandleader's and vibes man Lennie's rare-as-hen's-teeth 2nd LP. Record Shop (Ben's, Guildford). Original Regal Zonophone mono press with the black cover, which unlike the US version doesn't have "Winter Shade..." on it. Not in the best of nick admittedly (the cover's tatty and there's marks all over it), but it plays perfectly well for a 50 year old record.

Facebook Marketplace. I've been a member of a local FB selling site for a while now, and managed to flog some absolute dross on there in recent times (and I mean DROSS). However, it's rare that anyone sells anything worth buying, although one day this chap who was about to move house listed a couple of Neil Young LPs which I thought for £3 each were worth a nab. Sale agreed, he suddenly pulls out another box which had amongst some Yes and Thin Lizzy LPs a copy of ITCOTCK. Took it out of its sleeve. OMG. 1st press, solid pink Island label, not a mark on it. He wanted £2.50 for it. Seen it go on eBay for over $900. [First added to this chart: 10/27/2017]

Record Shop (Sound Machine, Reading). Been on the wantlist for some time so imagine my surprise when I found it sitting in a well-stocked Indie 12" singles box for next-to-nowt. Also bought a copy of Seamonsters from the same box which I sold onto a guy in Australia for a tidy profit. [First added to this chart: 12/28/2016]

Very cool find with the Skatalites. Quite a few other gems I'd love to have. Fantastic concept. Might just do my own.

Great chart idea. I'd love to own any of these. Oddly enough I don't. That's also my least favorite Spiritualized record. Love that you have Belly's Star. That album seems to be one loved by folks who were around when it came out, but the kids don't know how good it is.
