Very Good Plus - Vital Vinyl (Collector's Edition) by Jimmy Dread

I'm currently in my second phase of buying vinyl, having acquired a fair bit at the start of the 21st Century and only starting again at the start of 2015 when my wife bought me a shiny new turntable. I wonder if she realised what would happen as a result...

Amazingly some of the LPs I've acquired during my last vinyl buying phase and over the last couple of years (either from second hand record shops on the cheap or car boot sales) are now worth a packet. Here's a list of the records I have in my collection which according to Discogs are worth the most. Pour scorn over my taste if you must, or make me an offer (although can't see me selling any of these in a hurry). Just get out your anti-static record cleaner, record brush and micro-fibre cloth and go bananas! All original presses here unless stated/good reason or story behind them - take you coloured 180g represses taken from a CD source and put them on your Crosley Cruiser record player like I imagine some here do. Jimmy, September 2019.

EBay. You'll notice as you navigate your way down the list there's a bucketload of reggae in my collection, and a fair bit of it commands a decent price. None more so that this stonking Studio One LP from Skatalites member and keyboard king Jackie Mittoo - an album I'd been after for ages especially as I couldn't find it anywhere to stream on-line. Cheapest price of this on Discogs at time of writing is £230+. [First added to this chart: 07/21/2017]

Record Shop (Peoples' Sound, Ladbroke Grove). My own Holy Grail, picked up in People's Sound on the All Saints Road. Cost me at the time more than I'd ever spent on any record currently in my collection (£40.00) but according to Discogs has previously been sold for nearly 3 times that amount. Given all the fuss and bother it took me to finally found a copy would only consider selling if no food was on the table or my ears fell off. [First added to this chart: 09/13/2015]

Record Shop (Honest Jon's, Ladbroke Grove). REPRESS. I'm not the biggest fan of Record Store Day, and up to the time of writing have never participated in the queuing ritual to pick up a pink splatter coloured record of Justin Bieber's Greatest Hits or whatever. In fact I was out of the country for RSD 2017, so never imagined I'd grab one of the only records that I genuinely wanted - the original Scratch mix of HotC - 3 days after the event. But upon returning from my Canarian sejourn that's exactly what happened (they actually had 3 left in stock, to my great surprise). 6 months after the event and it's going for upwards of £100. Portobello Market. Quite possibly my favourite way to spend a Sunday morning is driving up to Ladbroke Grove and going for a wander around the record shops (Honest Jon's, Rough Trade) and market stalls on Portobello Road. I've picked up some corkers over the years, but none better than this, a first Studio One press of bandleader's and vibes man Lennie's rare-as-hen's-teeth 2nd LP. Record Shop (Daddy Kool, Soho) Bought from what was before it shut down one of London's finest reggae emporiums, which was the first place where someone behind the counter questioned my lack of record player when I bought a Bunny Lee compy on CD c.2000. US press of what has ended up being one of my top 3 JA studio albums. Seems that these go for a decent amount given the often shoddy state of the original Jamaican Studio One pressings. Life would be a lot sadder without it. [First added to this chart: 01/15/2015]

Very cool find with the Skatalites. Quite a few other gems I'd love to have. Fantastic concept. Might just do my own.

Great chart idea. I'd love to own any of these. Oddly enough I don't. That's also my least favorite Spiritualized record. Love that you have Belly's Star. That album seems to be one loved by folks who were around when it came out, but the kids don't know how good it is.
