Very Good Plus - Vital Vinyl (Collector's Edition) by Jimmy Dread

I'm currently in my second phase of buying vinyl, having acquired a fair bit at the start of the 21st Century and only starting again at the start of 2015 when my wife bought me a shiny new turntable. I wonder if she realised what would happen as a result...

Amazingly some of the LPs I've acquired during my last vinyl buying phase and over the last couple of years (either from second hand record shops on the cheap or car boot sales) are now worth a packet. Here's a list of the records I have in my collection which according to Discogs are worth the most. Pour scorn over my taste if you must, or make me an offer (although can't see me selling any of these in a hurry). Just get out your anti-static record cleaner, record brush and micro-fibre cloth and go bananas! All original presses here unless stated/good reason or story behind them - take you coloured 180g represses taken from a CD source and put them on your Crosley Cruiser record player like I imagine some here do. Jimmy, September 2019.

Record Fair. Original Decca press of (along with Court Of The Crimson King) my favourite prog LP. I first saw this for sale for £200 in the rather charming Land Of Grey and Pink Records in Chester, but obviously passed due to the price. A little while later I picked up a repress in South East London which I was more than happy with. That was until I saw another original press at a record fair in my traditional record buying stamping ground of Guildford. For a tenner. [First added to this chart: 07/06/2016]

EBay. I first heard Shelagh McDonald via a fantastic psych-folk compy called Gather In The Mushrooms. I'd tried for years to track down this LP, from which the compy track (Liz's Song) is culled from, however it's as rare as the hills. So imagine my delight when I found it on eBay, won with a last second bid (I think I outbid someone by 50p) and was finally united with a record which - alongside albums by Sidan and Sister Nancy - was probably the one piece of wax I was the most ecstatic to obtain. Private sale (well, Discogs really, but negotiated a better price as the guy selling it lived locally). Now officially the most I've ever spent on a record (£65), but worth every penny. Numbered original with insert, records immaculate, and better still bought from a soul nut in Bracknell who saw the Dollys supporting the Undertones in Guildford back in the day, and promptly bought the record as a direct result. The best records always have stories. [First added to this chart: 03/12/2017]

Gumtree (UK Craigslist). Original UK (mono) Brunswick press. Bought at the start of 2016 with a couple of other original Who LPs from a guy in Sunbury who was selling his old vinyl collection. Not in the best of shape, but plays through nicely and bearing in mind the guide price is £600 for a mint copy I wasn't going to pass up something that's likely worth £150 to the right person. Cost to me? £3. [First added to this chart: 02/05/2016]

Record Shop (£sd, Salisbury). Xurbia Xendless boxset. First saw this sitting in the corner of my one of my favourite record shops about 3 months before I actually bought it, then one Friday after finishing work (somewhat ironically) in Abingdon decided to make a pilgrimmage down to Wiltshire to see if they still had it. Miraculously they did - for half the price it sells for on-line and with both records unplayed. [First added to this chart: 07/21/2017]

Gumtree. Can't believe how much this fetches. Bought off a chef who'd just split up from his girlfriend, who decided to take the record player with her leaving the guy with some vinyl surplus to requirements (including Ed Sheeran and Drake. No wonder she buggered off) [First added to this chart: 12/28/2016]

Discogs. The last Field Mice LP I managed to track down, and also the most valuable. Although it contains half the tracks that are on Snowball and a couple that are on Skywriting (both of which I also own), it's got perhaps one of my top 5 all-time tracks on it in "Sensitive", and considering the 7" with that on goes for £50 on its own it made picking this up a no-brainer. Discogs. Having owned an original Spirit Of Eden for many years (I picked it up in a charity shop in the early 00s for a quid, although never listened to it until about 2015), I'd been after a copy of Laughing Stock to complement it for some time. I'd almost given up trying until I saw it listed for a reasonable sum, which upon doing I e-mailed the guy selling it to see if I could knock him down a little. A fiver off and a botched Royal Mail delivery later (postie left it out in the pouring rain, luckily guy had packed it in PVC sleeve which kept the water off) and it was mine. Very cool find with the Skatalites. Quite a few other gems I'd love to have. Fantastic concept. Might just do my own.

Great chart idea. I'd love to own any of these. Oddly enough I don't. That's also my least favorite Spiritualized record. Love that you have Belly's Star. That album seems to be one loved by folks who were around when it came out, but the kids don't know how good it is.
