Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by BrandonC375

This is my first chart, and I chose a simple theme (My 100 Favorite Albums). I am a big fan of alt-rock (specifically albums in the garage rock revival, piano rock, and psychadelic rock subgenres), classic rock, jazz, and a fan of some pop and rap (if there are good narratives or good tongue-in-cheek lyricism). Hit me up if you have a good album recommendation within those genres that aren't already on here. Thanks!

The first album recorded by the band, back when it was a trio and before the incredible liveliness of Josh Dun, this album centers itself on the more poetic verses of Tyler Joseph as he discusses family and religion. "Addict With A Pen" may forever be my favorite track by TOP. [First added to this chart: 07/11/2015]

The very first album I ever owned, Hybrid Theory burst Linkin Park onto the scene with hits like "One Step Closer", "Crawling", and "In The End". I was only 9 years-old when I got this for my birthday and, even as a 9 year-old, I dug the nu-metal and rap sound. I'm not a metal fan by any means now, but it is just something about Linkin Park's sound that opened the door to harder alternative and rap music for me. [First added to this chart: 02/11/2016]

This was a good in-between album for twenty one pilots. They had two of the original three members had to leave the band and Josh Dun, who is now the band's current drummer, joined. Regional At Best was also put out independently, as was their first album, and it has a handful of songs that would later be redone and be put on Vessel. Still a solid album and has one of the best Twenty One Pilots songs, "Kitchen Sink", in my opinion. [First added to this chart: 02/26/2016]

Ryan Lott is a studied musician of both classical and jazz piano, but also has arranged several orchestral pieces. His ingenuity of composition really shine through in this genre-unspecific album. Some chamber-pop is in here as well as dance and atmospheric songs. Give it a listen. He deserves it! [First added to this chart: 02/11/2016]

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 82.9/100, a mean average of 81.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 81.7/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 13.4.

Solid chart though maybe a little heavy on the recent decades. That and I'm not a big fan of some of your most represented artists: Arctic Monkeys, 21 Pilots, etc. it seems we really like some of the same genres though your preference may be for the rawer sound (Arctic Monkeys, Walkmen, Shins, Strokes) while I tend to go for the overproduced sound (Muse).

Love to see Ben Folds so well represented. He's a genius and extremely talented; I hope that future generations will look back at him the way we look at Elton John or Billy Joel's music. I'm guessing you've probably seen him live already if he's your favorite artist, I'd highly recommend seeing him live with an orchestra next time he does a tour like that! Incredible stuff

I love your notes (thought they are all in the wrong place??), and your mix of records too. Would be great to see some more stuff from the older decades!!

You've got a wide amount of variety too! :)
I replied to your comment on my chart, no idea if you got notified or not. I like that you've written about the albums.
Glad to see another Twenty One Pilots fan. :D
I also love Tame impala and Sam's Town by The Killers. I didn't include them on my chart, but I remember coming so close to xD

Aaargh! You posted Blurryface before me!!! Though it only came out a few days ago, I haven't stopped listening to it! Definitely my favorite album already...and I've been listening to a lot of music in the last few years. You have a lot of The Strokes on your list, and I definitely agree that Room On Fire is better than Is This It. ROF has more refinement to it and isn't as fuzzy, though ITI is awesome! But go twenty one pilots!
