In the process of updating the descriptions, it probably won't be where I want it to be until early '26
anyways, of course this is always a work in progress
glad to still see this site alive after all these years :)

This album is a punch to the heart, mind, and soul. Many of the lyrics and stories on this record remind me much of my own life with how honest they are. The self-doubt, self-destruction, and earnest self-hatred all come through really well on every song that touches on those topics. In addition, his imagery about his life growing up in a small town is always on point and avoids a lot of the modern tropes. This, in a way, is very much so a coming-of-mind album in how these thoughts seem to be those that would come up at a personal crossroad. The whole album is a highlight, but the main one here is Sweet DeAnn. The songwriting is heart-breaking but also optimistic, and I think that's a good way to describe this album.
"I need calling you right about now
Tell you stories of a pretty fine gal
Remind you of the things that your boy's into
How he looks and he acts and he talks like you
This world's not meant for showin' mercy
I got pictures of us that hurt me
Cause I'm squeezin' you and you're smilin' through
That flash up on the wall" [First added to this chart: 04/24/2020]
2 hours of the fantastic tracks from the best songwriter of my generation? That's just the start of it. There are so many stories to get lost in on here, but what makes this one of the best albums I have ever listened to are the lyrics and the melodies. This album is all about being in the present and feeling all of the emotions that come with living in the present without looking forward to the future all of the time. The track Someday challenged my own view of time and thought, something that I will be forever grateful for. Sonically, this is Zach's most diverse record with a ton of influence coming from Red Dirt and even Heartland Rock at times.
"Someday, I'll make it there, I swear
To that place that haunts my dreams at night
Singing heavenly highway hymns all the way up
To that beautiful old countryside
Someday, I'll find the words to explain
All the good times that echo through my mind
Your grin in the morning's a warm southern sun
Or seeing double when those chemicals align
Just some kids who needed love, using laughter as their drug
Doing their best to tow that hard line
Someday, I will lie under blue skies
In a hay field that holds me like home
And I'll ask forgiveness with God as my witness
For straying so far on my own" [First added to this chart: 07/02/2022]
This is an amazing companion piece to DeAnn. It's darker, more flushed out, and has more instruments and harmonies. Everything I said about DeAnn can be applied here.
From Anita:
"Well the fire in your blood is showin' through your eyes
The evil in your bones is takin' it's time
And your head told your heart it had enough today
Anita's dead upstairs with the dreams on the way
And I remember you when you left this town
But sing of love and codeine with you around
You left hear and found the world was cold
Now you're in my arms and you'll never grow old"
From From A Lover's Point Of View:
"You don't have to drink tonight
Why don’t we just get some sleep?
'Cause I'm tired of cryin’ in driveways
As you slur the words you speak
I know growin' up
Has been an evil thing to you
Makes you awful hard to love
From a lover's point of view" [First added to this chart: 07/14/2020]

Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)
This chart is rated in the top 1% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 91.8/100, a mean average of 92.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 92.7/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 7.7.

As already mentioned, a unique chart and a distinctive feel to it. I like it
I like this chart a lot. There is a uniquely special feeling when you discover an artist (or 2) that flies under the radar of commercial success and hits at the heartstrings in a uniquely personal way. This chart is full of such artists/albums ¬ and well worth a deep dive rather than a cursory glance.
The Australian album in this list - Go Further Into Darkness - is well worth a listen. Of the 2 albums we have in common, this is one of them.
Great and unique and individual chart with some really intriguing recommendations.
Very interesting choice it is a good chart with underrated pearls.
Most interesting list. 90% of artists I know nothing about
One of my favorite spiritual guidance in the internet is this chart right here. King.
I will now listen to that Zach Bryan album.
Holy shit what an absolutely bananas list. It goes fucking everywhere and never stops to... Impress? Like, I feel in a way that this many obscure picks would feel forced, as if it's trying too hard to be special, but in a way I also feel it's all coming from a genuine place. Nonetheless, props to you! This'll definitely be my go-to place for when I need some new stuff to listen to.
Also, amongst everything, mad respect to someone with แห่สดดนตรีพื้นบ้านหนองโก ชุดที่ 8 + 9 in their chart. I salute you.
The Year Of Hibernation!!!
This is a really cool chart, I love a lot of these artists, gotta say your hip hop picks shock me though. Lil Peep made the best hip hop album ever? But hey, its a personal list so I digress. Great choices overall
