Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by SubzeroButcher Unknown

This is my personal favorite top 100 albums.
They have to be albums that I own, listen to frequently, & have as little filler as possible.
Plenty of typical BEA (i.e. Abbey Road, OK Computer, Blonde on Blonde, etc.) have been omitted because they do not meet one of the criteria above.

Let me know what you think of it.

Post IV Zeppelin. Lush landscapes and bigger instrumentation fill in where swagger and scrappiness once prevailed. Their scope of the world has enlarged and so has the sonic palette.
Seriously every song is a drop dead classic any band would be lucky to have written just one of these beauties

A journey of the body, soul, and mind. Through Middle Earth battlefields, upon the mystic stairways, and all the way to the murky South. The template for heavy rock was set here. This is the Old Testament of how it is done and it is good. [First added to this chart: 07/06/2011]

Whenever the British invade America they always do so in style. Whether it's in redcoats or shaggy bowl haircuts, they always make an impression on the youth of America. I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor was the next big thing and the rest of the songs did not disappoint. A certain wide-eyed innocence and small neighborhood observations were all the charm that was necessary for the early 2000's Brit takeover. [First added to this chart: 05/26/2011]

Guitar/Drums/Bass/Vocals. The raw attitude it emits along with the sheer talent of the band who would go on to change the very way we think of Rock and Roll. This is, in my opinion, the greatest band that ever was and on their second effort, they pulled away from the pack and bombastically launched themselves into the history books. Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 82.3/100, a mean average of 81.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 81.4/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 14.8.

Good to see some Deftones appreciation, especially for Koi No Yokan! Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge is also a great album to see that high up. Neat picks!

While 90% of your picks aren’t even in the realm of my music taste, your chart is pretty good.
However, your favor of the 2010s is INSANE

Really like your criteria. Also like all the newer music. Being an old guy, there’s a lot here I’m not familiar with. I pulled up a random album and sm currently listening to Courtney Barnett for the first time. Thanks for the intro, great album so far!!

Definitely a bit rock-heavy, but among the sea of rock artists are some great acts. Especially love the respect for Refused and IDLES.

So many great recent albums, from Thee Oh Sees and Ty Segall to Tyler and St. Vincent, too good! Also never been a big Deftones fan, but I've never listened to anything apart from Gore and White Pony. Might do a Deftones session now.

Good Chart, a lot of modern stuff. Like to see: DFA 1979; Deftones, Ty Segall, Parquet Courts, Meatbodies and Idles.

I guess, if i´ll check out your Chart in one year a lot of changes will happend.

A much more varied list than I was expecting after the first couple of picks! Nice to see the smattering of hip hop in the mix - that said I think there's a little too much focus on the current decade!
