Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by Kalipto
My favorite albums from my favorite artists. I've only included albums that I've listened through quite a bit and enjoyed (obviously :P), so if something isn't here, it's probably because I haven't finished it yet.

Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)
This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 83.5/100, a mean average of 81.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 81.4/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 10.9.

Yeah I quite like many of the albums and artists that you list. It looks like you had your music - Nick Cave, Bruce Springstein and Editors feature often, but it then looks like your picking up some new artists to you probably from seeing charts and recommendations from sites like this - which is what I guess this site is all about. So well done for that. As you say, as you get to listen to other stuff it might start to feature - I'm on a similar journey and finding loads of new and exciting albums and artists
As long as someone's taste is interesting it doesn't necessarily have to be good. Although the chart is frankly, bizarre, there are some interesting insights into the mind of a peculiar, peculiar man, whoever he may be. Quite a few albums on the list are great, yet the placement is odd. Who would ever have thought that a list which contains Bowie and Pink Floyd would have their albums placed below the albums of such bland and forgettable mediocrity like Editors and Mumford and Sons.
In any case, a brave chart, in the same way that being objectively wrong is sometimes brave.
are you quite sure that Division Bell is the only Pink Floyd album better than Wish You Were Here, The Wall, and Dark Side of the Moon? haven't you ever heard More, Ummagumma, Obscured By Clouds, the one with all of the empty beds on the cover, or Roger Waters' solo efforts? I can't believe you could only think of 1 PF album better than those 3, you're breaking my balls, man.
more interesting bits:
editors' best =/= back room?
queen's 2nd best = a kind of magic?
bruce springsteen's the rising + human touch > born to run?
you should prob listen to queen's the works, jazz, news of the world, queen II, and a day at the races, you'll probably like them more than a kind of magic.
If it wasn't for Mumford & Sons your chart and the whole overall chart would be perfect
Brave--and probably controversial--to list Mumford and Sons at #1 and #2. I'm not so sure about Babel, but Sigh No More is really a terrific album that became a cliche way too soon. I (mostly) don't fault the band for that.
