Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by limowreck_69

The rules of this chart are; each of the top ten albums are arguably the best albums ever made, 11- 30 are each arguably the best album of their decade and after that is a mix of classic albums that still sound incredible today and some of my personal favourites- a very less-than-objective list, but isn't everyone's?

A painfully underrated masterpiece, on my first listen to this album, some 7 years ago, once I got past the first two tracks the rest of the album seemed to me like background music, but then as I gave the whole CD repeated listens, one by one each track began to leap out to me to show its incredible and subtle beauty, and I finally saw how incredible this piece of work was. If you think 2005 was a bad year for music, go listen to this album. If you think the 2000s were a bad decade for music, go listen to this album, and trust me, your patience will be rewarded. Metallica's first album without Cliff Burton, and Jason Newstead doesn't really get much of a chance to fill his boots, no space for a slick bassline like we heard before on "Orion" or in all honesty any space for him to be heard at all- I would definitely recommend tapping "And justice for Jason" into youtube to hear what could've been! But despite this lack of interesting bass this album still sounds amazing, and the other members were clearly on form, it has some really nice guitar work and the drumming is superb, resulting in each song sound awesome, "One" is up there with the greatest songs ever written. Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 84.1/100, a mean average of 84.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 83.9/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 10.1.

Having comments against albums always adds to the enjoyment for me so thanks for that. I'm not a Beatles fan either but they did some great music but it's your chart and you have to respect peoples choices.

Really nice chart with some good commentary. And a lot of good albums. I just bought Number of the Beast, I like that album and many albums on here. Holy Bible is heavy you are right. I have to be in the right mood to listen to it.

I am one of those people with multiple Beatles albums in his top ten. Guilty as charged. But I accept that some people don't like the Beatles. Two of my closest friends don't like 'em and I am a mega-fan. But diversity is a good thing. It would be damn boring if we all agreed and all liked the same thing.

I enjoyed reading your chart.

Refreshing to see a good amount of albums that aren't highly rated mixed in with a good variety of highly rated ones. Awesome seeing Sam Cooke on here, he's fantastic.

This chart rules! Audioslave's self titled is a fantastic album, and don't even get me started on The Number Of The Beast. Great

So I came here expecting to see an awful chart b/c MMLP is so high on it (as I learned from the MMLP page which I planned to troll some more). I was just curious what other trash someone who likes MMLP might like.

However, I briefly considered apologizing for this false assumption upon seeing your chart but knew I was too lazy for such a thing and wouldn't have even commented at all if not for that ridiculous Beatles commentary. Bah, now that I'm here, w/e, sorry for the bad assumption. I was wrong, I admit it. Anyway....

Show me another band with music as varying as "Love You To," "Hey Bulldog," "For No One," "Helter Skelter," "Glass Onion," "Revolution," "Eleanor Rigby," "A Day In The Life," "I Want You (She's So Heavy)," "Yer Blues," and yes the simple stuff like "Can't Buy Me Love." No other band has this much variety. Anyone who's never heard those songs wouldn't believe they're from the same band if they heard them all right now. To believe it and call them "simple"?

MAYBE I'd believe you actually were familiar with them and were just a pretentious cock if your list was full of classical and jazz, but as it is? DUDE, YOUR CHART IS FULL OF BANDS THAT ARE NOWHERE NEAR AS COMPLEX AS THE BEATLES.

The Beatles invented multiple styles and to this day have only been rivaled by Radiohead. You're out of your mind if you can listen to all of those songs and think for a second that this is a "simple band with simple melodies."

They must've utilized every instrument at some point, to near perfection at that. You've never heard Revolver, Abbey Road, Sgt Peppers, Rubber Soul, Magical Mystery Tour, Let It Be, The White Album, Help, A Hard Day's Night... how many classic albums does 1 band need? They comprise 60% of our overall top 5 for a reason.

Nobody truly dislikes the Beatles, you're being willfully ignorant or trolling or trying some edgy fad that you'll hopefully grow out of. Listen to those songs already and see if you can back up your statements. You have "verse, chorus, verse, chorus" structured s*&^ in your chart and call the Beatles simple, get out of here.

It is a very balanced list. There are some tips, but in good mix of ages, but specially 90's and 00's like my own list.
