Been updating this chart a lot more frequently recently and I think it reflects the music I like and listen to better than ever. My hope is that everyone who finds this chart will come away with at least one new album to enjoy.

I'm still in the process of adding notes to my picks, so bear with me!

Hard Rock

I was in denial about this album for the longest time. I love blues music, and so I called II my favorite of theirs. But I love Led Zeppelin too, and this is the album where Led Zeppelin stopped playing blues (or folk) music or and started playing Led Zeppelin music. Every song here is iconic and indispensable from their discography.

Art Rock, Electronic

Kid A was one of the first albums I listened to where I really felt like I didn't understand what artists were doing since I had never heard anything like it before. For a long time I preferred OKC, IR, and even A Moon Shaped Pool. What makes it so incredible to me, though, is that after studying and finding love for its influences like Aphex Twin and Talking Heads I found it more enjoyable and even more creative than I did on first listen. The fact that Radiohead made such niche genres in the scheme of pop music like post-punk and IDM into an album that topped the charts is incomprehensible to me.

Trip Hop

I love Dummy because for its time it was a perfect synthesis of past, present and future. The drum breaks and turntablism of early 90s hip hop, the words coolly delivered in a way reminiscent of vocal jazz, futuristic electronic beats and reverb heavy guitar from 60s psychedelia fit seamlessly together.

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 1% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 91.6/100, a mean average of 93.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 93.8/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 6.7.

Really great mix of genres and time periods, plus I love the notes you've written so far. That Russian album is the only one not on my radar, will have to give it a listen!

Great chart, but it's weird that this, with similars, misses Eminem
