Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).

Very unique Top 100. Really interesting to go through. Really enjoy all of the albums here. Have, in particular, enjoyed discovering Suzanne Sundfor over the last few weeks thanks to this site. So it is very nice to see her recommended so highly in this chart.
I love that this is the most female artist oriented chart I have seen on this site and that female Scandinavian artists are being recognised. I have some of these artists/albums in my year charts (and also my top 100 female artists chart) ~ and there will be a few I will need to check out.

Very cool chart. Mostly straightforward, vocal-centric, and melodically distinct.
I remember that I listened to Jenny Hval because of this, have since discovered she's one of the best artists of the decade. Stumbling upon this chart again a couple months later and I had to bump my rating to 100
a great collection of indie and a breath of fresh air on a male-dominated website

Love it. You manage to make the chart feel diverse and fresh even with so many repeat artists. Inspires me to not be afraid to repeat an artist and keep it honest.
