"We're not scaremongering, this is really happening."

The thing that I love the most about Kid A is the cryptic, fractured story that it hints at among the nonsense that makes up most of the album. The way I see it, it's as if the protagonist is in denial about something, trying to convince himself that "everything is in its right place", he's "not here, this isn't happening," or faking optimism "the best you can is good enough." Throughout the album, these attempts to evade whatever he's trying to escape grow more and more desperate, until he can't take it anymore, and begins to tell himself he's "living in a fantasy world." With Idioteque, he finally snaps in the frantic, anxious climax of the album, "we're not scaremongering, this is really happening." After that comes Morning Bell and Motion Picture Soundtrack, neither of which have I figured out yet. Maybe I will someday. For now, it just adds to the mystique of the album.

Favourite Tracks: How To Disappear Completely, Motion Picture Soundtrack, The National Anthem, Idioteque

"Because we both knew we're just floating in the same space over molten rock, and we felt safe and discovered that our skin is soft, there's nothing left except certain death, and that was comforting at night out under the moon."

My first listen to this was one of the weirdest experiences I've ever had while listening to music. I was stuck outside, slightly lost, in 30°C without water, and I swear to god that there was this crow that was following me. I never actually saw it move, but everywhere I went, it was there siting in a tree, staring at me.

"Now all your love is wasted? Then who the hell was I? Now I'm breaking at the britches, and at the end of all your lines."

I probably should find this sappy, but after hearing it for the first time at 4:00 in the morning while sick and unable to sleep, it's quite a magical album.

"Don't get any big ideas. They're not gonna happen."

Every track on In Rainbows is somebody's favourite track on it. Come to think of it, that probably stands for Radiohead's entire discography. But especially so for In Rainbows. Compared to OK Computer or Kid A, this has a more resigned mood, which makes it a bit less emotionally powerful than those two, but it's still an excellent and super consistent album.
