The thing that I love the most about Kid A is the cryptic, fractured story that it hints at among the nonsense that makes up most of the album. The way I see it, it's as if the protagonist is in denial about something, trying to convince himself that "everything is in its right place", he's "not here, this isn't happening," or faking optimism "the best you can is good enough." Throughout the album, these attempts to evade whatever he's trying to escape grow more and more desperate, until he can't take it anymore, and begins to tell himself he's "living in a fantasy world." With Idioteque, he finally snaps in the frantic, anxious climax of the album, "we're not scaremongering, this is really happening." After that comes Morning Bell and Motion Picture Soundtrack, neither of which have I figured out yet. Maybe I will someday. For now, it just adds to the mystique of the album.
Favourite Tracks: How To Disappear Completely, Motion Picture Soundtrack, The National Anthem, Idioteque [First added to this chart: 10/27/2016]
Favourite Tracks: Going Up, Tattooed Man, The Last Amethyst Deceiver, Fire Of The Mind, Teenage Lightning 2005 [First added to this chart: 12/31/2017]
Favourite Tracks: Avril 14th, Nanou 2, Vordhosbn, Kesson Daslef, Mt Saint Michel + Saint Michael's Mount [First added to this chart: 11/22/2017]
Every track on In Rainbows is somebody's favourite track on it. Come to think of it, that probably stands for Radiohead's entire discography. But especially so for In Rainbows. Compared to OK Computer or Kid A, this has a more resigned mood, which makes it a bit less emotionally powerful than those two, but it's still an excellent and super consistent album.
Favourite tracks: Nude, Weird Fishes/Arpeggi, Reckoner, Bodysnatchers, 15 Step [First added to this chart: 10/27/2016]
Favourite Tracks: Music Is Math, Beware The Friendly Stranger, Julie And Candy, 1969
For a while this was my least favourite Radiohead album (aside from Pablo Honey, of course), but eventually I grew to like it. People often call it a bunch of b-sides from Kid A, but I feel there is a distinct difference between the two albums. While Kid A feels like a desolate, alien wasteland, Amnesiac is more claustrophobic and even sort of nostalgic, like a dusty old attic that nobody has been to in years. The B-sides are excellent as well, maybe even better than the album tracks, though I'm somewhat happy they didn't end up on the album, as they mostly don't fit with the mood. Cuttooth is far too upbeat for an album that contains Pyramid Song. I guess Amazing Sounds Of An Orgy and Kinetic would fit in fine though. I have no idea why they didn't use the full version of Life In A Glasshouse from the Knives Out single on the album.
Favourite Tracks: Life In A Glasshouse, Pyramid Song, You And Whose Army, I Might Be Wrong
Favourite B-sides: Fog, Cuttooth, The Amazing Sounds of an Orgy [First added to this chart: 10/27/2016]
Favourite Tracks: Funeralopolis, Barbarian, Vinum Sabbathi, Weird Tales [First added to this chart: 10/28/2018]
Favourite Tracks: Archangel, Untrue, Raver, Dog Shelter [First added to this chart: 09/05/2017]
Favourite Tracks: Vomitspit, Rapp Snitch Knishes, Hoe Cakes, Deep Fried Frenz, Potholderz [First added to this chart: 06/11/2018]
